channels the power through Lacon London
ieland Electric’s structured wiring system Metalynx2 and gesis plug and play system has been used for the
connection of power and lighting throughout the refurbished Lacon London, an eight-storey commercial building in the heart of Holborn, London. The building is owned by premier global investment company
Blackstone, who purchased the property in 2014. The refurbishment included replacement of all power and lighting by one of the UK and
Ireland’s largest and most successful broad-based technical services providers, Imtech UK. Imtech specified Wieland’s Metalynx2 armoured cabling system to feed the lighting and power cabling system on all eight floors, to combine lighting and power MDBs and feed LCMs and fan coil units. The products were supplied as a ‘plug and play’ system, pre-wired and
pre-tested, thus speeding up the installation time and allowing Imtech to meet the tight deadlines. With structured wiring now firmly established as the standard for fast-
track projects, Metalynx2 represents a new, smarter generation, helping to deliver even greater savings on costs and installation time. As such, it is ideal for power distribution, lighting control (including
DALI and KNX) and fan coil units – and with the ability to customise Metalynx2 components for special projects, it offers infinite design flexibility. Once Metalynx2 has been installed, any changes to the system can be accommodated quickly with minimum downtime. Wieland’s gesis GST18i6 6-pole connectors were also used on the CP lighting control modules to feed power and control signals to the luminaires. Using the Wieland system has resulted in a 70% reduction in installation time, maximising productivity time on-site, with zero wastage as well as maintenance cost savings of 30%. The system is designed to meet IEC 61535:2010 & BS 8488 and every
system component is factory tested in a quality-controlled environment prior to delivery.
