IE3 requirements to cover smaller motors from 1 Jan, 2017
efficiency will be compulsory in the European Union for mains-operated electric motors in the rated power range from 0.75 kW to 375 kW. This extension to smaller motor sizes is based on the Regulation (EC) 640/2009 implementing Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. In early 2016, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS already started offering motors rated 0.12 kW and higher according to IEC 60034- 30-1 IE3 efficiency and NEMA MG1 Premium Efficiency. Thus, the manufacturer exceeds the legal requirements, specifically in the small performance range. These units make up the bulk of all motors currently in operation. In order to make the changeover easy for machine and plant manufacturers, the dimensions of NORD's IE3 motors remain largely identical to those of IE2 models,

allowing for retrofitting without any modifications to machines and plants. Moreover, the NORD portfolio includes motors featuring an IE4 or Super Premium Efficiency rating that are inverter- controlled by default.

instrumentation. The new industrial automation protocols enable
integration of Alicat instruments with PLCs running EtherNet/IP or DeviceNet. Real time data-including mass flow, volumetric flow, pressure, temperature, selected gas calibration, setpoint, and totalised flow of gases-can be read centrally by the PLC and used to manage Alicat controllers and meters. Users may change setpoint or gas selection, and issue other commands to Alicat instruments using a DeviceNet or EtherNet/IP enabled PLC or computer.

www.snickersworkwear.co.uk Union Industries install refreshingly efficient doors at Swizzels The Bulldoor comes with free entry into Union’s
Lifetime Warranty Scheme which was introduced several years ago. This cover, which is included as standard, not only provides an extensive guarantee but also includes service visits from Union’s highly trained technicians as required. In common with the other doors in the range, the Bulldoor also features Union’s highly-regarded ‘Crash-Out’ and ‘Auto-Reset’ damage protection facility which ensures the door remains operable if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle. Neil Irwin, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “The Bulldoor has been designed specifically for external openings that are subject to high levels of traffic, making it the perfect addition to Swizzels’ warehouse. It’s a durable door, which has earned itself an excellent reputation due to its reliability.” Tony Bartley,
Building Services Managerat Swizzels,
said: “Maintaining excellent hygiene standards is of the upmost importance in the confectionary industry and Union’s high speed doors will help us achieve our targets during peaks times, when forklift trucks are coming in and out of the warehouse.”
Hearts and Parma Violets, which has had two of Union’s high-speed Bulldoors fitted at its Derbyshire warehouse. The confectionery manufacturer, which was established in 1928, required the doors to help maintain its exacting hygiene standards by acting as a pest control measure when the doors are in operation.

Standing at 2.8m wide x 3.7m high and 2.8m wide x 3.0m high, the Bulldoors, which feature a Swizzels logo on the blades, are activated by radio control systems that are mounted onto the company’s forklift trucks.
Union’s Bulldoor, which opens at approximately 1.6m per second, is ideal for high use external openings and will also help reduce any environmental ingress caused by the elements.
