Q&A WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
What are your best tips for employee recognition?
“Recognition for associates can be a spontaneous ‘thank you.’ Those two words are so powerful. Programs should be focused on engagement and collaboration. Empowering the associates to collaborate with supervisors in determining care approaches will create staff ownership and satisfaction, plus encourage continued engagement. The changes in employee/employer dynamic over the years is apparent—and that personal connection will provide consistent satisfaction.”
Lisa Corrado, CDAL Executive Director Chelsea Senior Living The Chelsea at Shrewsbury
“Excellent associate appreciation is a culture that is created from the top down. My philosophy is ‘Take care of the people who take care of the people,’ and this is a prevalent attitude among our management team. This is a continual practice, utilizing multiple modes of communication that meet our associates where they are, whether that be on social media, by sending thank-you notes, an invitation to a meal with their supervisor, or recognition at the staff meetings.”

“We have a monthly company program called ‘Legend of Honor.’ One or two associates are selected per month to receive this award. They are nominated by families, residents, and co-workers. On a daily basis, associates can be given a logo token for going above and beyond or getting a compliment from others. The token is turned in for a small gift from our goodie basket. We also recognize associates in daily and monthly meetings, on our Facebook page, and in our monthly newsletter.”
