EDITOR'S LETTER

PRESIDENT & CEO James Balda jbalda@argentum.org

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Gina Mamone

Being prepared for anything is a tall task for any person, or organization. The same holds true for the senior living profession. Life may throw you a curveball out of nowhere, like for instance the introduction of a prolonged pandemic that threatens the safety and well-being of residents and staff at senior living communities. The shock of COVID-19 put the subject of emergency preparedness and safety front and center and in the starkest of terms.

In this issue of Senior Living Executive, a trio of feature articles reveals the ins and outs of taking precautions for any number of possible threats to your communities, and touches on the lessons learned from the COVID era, and how being ahead of the next big threat is not an impossible task. Even though being ready for everything may seem implausible, the experts in the preparedness field tell our writers how to do so, covering in each article pieces of a pie that contain threats from cyberspace, natural disasters, criminals, utility failures, and other areas like telecoms and transportation, for instance. In addition to emergency preparedness takeaways, this issue also features insightful and memorable articles about how art is a lasting and necessary way of life for many seniors (see p. 50), how recent immigrants to our country have navigated the maze of immigration laws to become both U.S. citizen and stalwarts of their senior living communities (see p. 43), and what diversity in the workplace really means from the point of view of a young, groundbreaking leaders from Indiana (see p. 48).

Other articles offer clues on how to think anew on what makes a quality

executive director (see p. 40), two new Women in Leadership profiles (see, p. 36), and how NIC MAP Vision is changing the data game for senior living (see, p. 46). Enjoy the magazine and please offer feedback to me at pconnole@argentum.
