Elite Sport

The Institute has already established itself as a key resource for education, research, and clinical support for a large number of elite sporting organisations and athletes.

With two of our partners being the English Institute of Sport (EIS) and the British Olympic Association (BOA), and with some of their finest clinicians based and / or associated with the ISEH, we have become central to medical service delivery to many elite organisation and athletes.

Two initiatives which highlight this are: National Initiative on Cognitive Care (NICC) at the ISEH. Working with lead clinicians from the FA and RFU the ISEH has established a specialist concussion management service, which will work in partnership with major sports governing bodies to provide a comprehensive ground breaking service and lay the foundations for a clinical research programme in this area.

Secondly an Elite Sport Service which provides a dedicated access point for elite clubs to reach a doctor led service at the Urgent Care Centre and the Institute seven days a week has been established. It provides emergency cover on match days for games in London and Wembley. It also provides working time access to imaging and clinical resources at the ISEH and in 2015 will be set up to perform pre-signing medicals for the Premier League.

In terms of strengthening relationships with elite organisations during 2014 some of the groups we have worked with include several premiership football and rugby clubs (Tottenham, Arsenal, Sarcens, Harlequins, Leicester Tigers), the FA, RFU, NFL, the ATP Tour medical team, European Golf Tour, UK and British Athletics, Basketball England, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and a number of other partners.
