Welcome &

introduction

We are delighted to introduce the first annual report for the Institute of Sport Exercise & Health (ISEH). This report highlights the development, education, research and clinical activities that took place at the ISEH during 2014. Over this period the partners and team involved in the ISEH have been working very hard to establish the Institute and make a start on delivering what this exciting Olympic legacy set out to do.

We are very proud one year later on to be providing:

• Excellent clinical services to both NHS, Private and Elite Sports patients

• World class research and the capability to help a wide range of organisations

• World class education delivering an MSc in Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health and an MSc in Performing Arts Medicine as well as a number of stand-alone courses

• A range of support for sporting organisations • Important population health initiatives including the evaluation and monitoring of the Camden ‘Active Spaces’ project, a physical activity project for young people

2014 was our first full operational year, and it is so rewarding to see so much part of the vision not only being put in place, but delivering outcomes that will demonstrate how important the work undertaken at the ISEH will be in future; from improving the performance of elite

athletes through to growing the awareness of the positive effects of physical activity. This has been shown through the work we are doing with our partners at the BOA and EIS on the elite side, and the collaboration with UCL in measuring the levels of physical activity for a number of children and families in Camden clearly demonstrates the value the ISEH can play in the wider public health agenda. The arrival of both Prof Monty Mythen and Prof Hugh Montgomery and their teams at the ISEH bring huge credibility and capabilities to the Institute. On the educational front the ISEH is the home for two Masters courses, Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health and Performing Arts Medicine, with both courses being delivered out of ISEH from September 2014.

Another very important aspect of the ISEH during its early years is increasing its awareness and brand profile across a number of different sectors was always going to be a priority for the team.

The launch of the new ISEH website in 2014 and creation of a monthly newsletter coupled with an extremely proactive social media strategy has created a solid platform for us to grow from. Over the last 12 months the Institute has been introduced to a wide range of National Governing Bodies and professional elite athletes and as a result there are some very exciting potential relationships developing now and for the future.
