Camden Active Spaces conference


On Thursday 3 July the ISEH organised and hosted a conference to launch a new initiative, Camden Active Spaces, which aims to inspire school children to be more active, via good playground design and use of outdoor space. Following a welcome by Prof Fares Haddad and Fiona Dean, Assistant Director Culture & Environment, London Borough of Camden, conference attendees heard from Professor Ashley Cooper, University of Bristol, on encouraging physical activity in young people; William Roberts, Director of Strategy and Planning, NHS Camden Clinical Commission- ing Group and Charlotte Ashton, Camden and Islington Public Health, gave an overview of the project and showed delegates some of the playground designs. Dr Mark Hamer from UCL’s Physical Activity Re- search Group (PARG) spoke about monitoring and evaluating Camden Active Spaces. Richard Murley Chairman of UCLH and x from were in attendance.

Public Health England Annual Conference - Warwick


On the 16 and 17 September Public Health England held their annual conference at the University of Warwick. The conference which was about bringing together all aspects of public health so that scientific advances, diagnostic techniques, knowledge from the field and online tools are available to those working to improve health and wellbeing.

• Nutrition in sport and the science of hydration

On the 27 November the ISEH hosted a PARG talk by Dr Tess Harris from St George’s University of London who spoke about complex interventions to increase walking among older adult: ‘Does a complex intervention by primary care nurses increase walking in 60-75 year olds? Outcomes at 3 and 12 months from the PACE-Lift (Pedometer Accel- erometer Consultation Evaluation - Lift) cluster randomised controlled trial’.

Sports Coach UK - Talent Coaches Breakfast Club


We have agreed a number of events to be held at the ISEH working in partnership with Sports Coach UK. In particular three Talent Coaches Breakfast Clubs for level three coaches and above for all funded National Governing Bodies have been set up. The topics of these are:


• Psychological Approaches to Maximising Performance


• Developing a High Performing Mindset


• Talent Identification - Talent and Performance Team


We had coaches from Netball, England Athletics, Rugby and Lacrosse in attendance at the first session.
