Drainsaid get connected with Derby Homes

DrainsAid, the specialist drainage and sewer rehabilitation division of Peter Duffy Ltd, has been awarded a place on Derby Homes Ltd specialist supplier framework for sewer connections and associated repairs on Derby City Council’s 13,500 properties.

Derby Homes Ltd, which was created by Derby City Council to manage, maintain and improve its council houses and estates, selected the award-winning drainage specialist by formal tender earlier this month.

Jason Monaghan, Sales Manager at DrainsAid, said:

“The key to winning this particular tender was our superb track-record for safely delivering sewer connections and repairs to leading regional water companies and main contractors throughout the country. It is this, combined with our investment in an innovative field-based GPS work management system, that our team is so successful in securing these prestigious contracts.

“We are now looking forward to working with the Derby Homes team over the next four years and we will continue to develop our relationships with similar organisations in this sector.”

DrainsAid will start planned work with Derby Homes Ltd in the New Year, focusing on the delivery of a safe, collaborative service for new and existing sewer connections throughout the area. The company have selected two specialist teams to carry out the work, both of whom are NRASWA qualified as well as being trained in ‘doorstep protocols’ which means they are able to communicate effectively with all sectors of the

community.

“Health and Safety is of paramount of importance to DrainsAid,” added Jason. “Due to the fact that we work with a variety of different industries in sometimes challenging environments, we ensure that all of our engineers undergo comprehensive health and safety training continuously throughout their time here. Our company is frequently recognised through industry awards for our innovative approach to health and safety at work, and it’s something that we are constantly looking to improve. I have no doubt that our engineers and support staff will provide a superb service to Derby Homes Ltd.”

IET appoints new design and Production Sector Chairman

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced the appointment of Jeremy Hadall as the new Design and Production Sector Chairman.

A member of the IET since 1992, Jeremy Hadall, CEng FIET became a fellow earlier this year. Jeremy is currently Chief Technologist (Automation, Tooling, Fixturing & Electronics) at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, chair of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult Automation Capability Forum and a member of the British Automation and Robotics Association Council.

Having worked as both an Applications Engineer for ABB Robotics and a Senior Systems Engineer for Vanderlande Industries, his career in automation for manufacturing began when he left university. Joining the Manufacturing Technology Centre when it opened in 2010, Jeremy was responsible for the

conception and development of the Intelligent Automation research theme. With the growth of the company, his role progressed to Chief Technologist for the Automation, Tooling & Fixturing and Electronics for the MTC Group, which covers the Lloyds Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, MTC Operations and MTC Business Launch Centre.

Jeremy Hadall commented: “It has given me great pleasure to accept the IET’s invitation to chair the Design and Production Sector Executive Committee. I am fortunate to take up this position with a strong and enthusiastic team of volunteers, collected together under our previous chairman, Morgan David to whom I am indebted.

“Across the nation, the production sector is undergoing significant change with an increased focus on what we, as a nation, can manufacture. Whilst the UK may have lost many of its traditional manufacturing industries, we still have some unique and high value manufacturing sectors, and with our continued investment in innovation and skills we are well placed to develop the high value manufacturing technologies of the future. It is my view, that for too long, design and production have not been seen as one and I hope that the Design and Production Sector can address this imbalance.”
