Honeywell introduces Multirae Benzene

wireless portable gas monitor Industry’s First Six-Gas, Benzene-Specific Monitor Promises New Level of Safety Protection for Confined Space and Hazardous Site Workers man-down scenario.

Honeywell, the leader in wirelessly connected gas and radiation detection solutions, today introduced MultiRAE Benzene, the industry’s first wireless portable six-gas monitor with a benzene-specific, snapshot measurement designed to protect worker safety in hazardous environments.

The new MultiRAE Benzene includes an innovative six- tube cartridge—called RAE SepTubeTM Cartridge—that operates in conjunction with the unit’s photoionization (PID) sensor. The MultiRAE Benzene measures benzene in the 0.1 to 200 ppm range while the RAE SepTubeTM Cartridge filters out other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and gases, eliminating cross-interference, a long-time problem in benzene- specific detection.

The benzene detection capability is one element of a unique, one-to-five-sensor module with interchangeable electrochemical, combustible and PID sensors to protect users from a broad range of toxic and combustible gases and VOCs.

MultiRAE Benzene provides real-time, wireless access to instrument readings and alarm conditions, including a

“Benzene snapshot specific measurement combined with a six-gas portable monitor adds a critical component to what already is the industry’s leading portable gas monitor for industrial safety managers,” said Gautier Mallet, product manager for Honeywell Industrial Safety. “Now plant managers can provide a higher degree of protection for their workers while increasing operational efficiency. With snapshot benzene measurement, MultiRAE Benzene allows confined space pre-screening with one instrument rather than two, and can quickly evaluate potential benzene sources.”

Other MultiRAE features of note include: wireless connectivity as a standalone or networkable solution; intelligent, field-replaceable sensors including oxygen, LEL combustibles, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and others; up to six months’ datalogging; automatic bump test and calibration (with AutoRAE2) and stainless-steel housing with IP-65 water/dust ingress protection.

MultiRAE Benzene has been certified for intrinsic safety ATEX /IECEX Ex ia IIC T4 Ga as well as CSA for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D, T4 hazardous atmospheres.

Proving the power of efficiency Jets Flowplant

develops Thrust ‘O’ Meter demonstration rig Flowplant has developed the Thrust ‘O’ Meter to demonstrate to its customers the increased efficiency that is achievable from high quality drain jets. Now available at all Flowplant Service centres, the Thrust ‘O’ Meter gives a precise measurement of the water pressure as it enters the jet nozzle and a digital readout displays the thrust that the drain nozzle is producing.

Alistair Hiscock, Sales Director, explained how the Thrust ‘O’ Metre was born: “We have frequently claimed that high efficiency drain jets improve jetter operation by providing up to three times more cleaning power. This means less water is used and longer drain runs can be cleaned with the same jetter, leading to a faster turnaround time on jobs sites.

“Many of our clients took us at our word, tried the jets and are now reaping the benefit of increased productivity and the profits that flow from it. But some wanted more proof, so we set down a

challenge to our engineers to design and build a demonstration rig that could clearly show the increased pulling power that’s available from high quality drain jets.”

Any jet nozzle can now be tested in front of Flowplant’s customers. They can see how a jetting hose that is too small for the flow will severely reduce water pressure at the nozzle. Flowplant can also show how the thrust developed by different pattern jets can make each cleaning task quicker and more effective. With this information, Flowplant’s customers can select the nozzle and hose combination that best suits their jetter and the application.

Jetter operators can visit any one of Flowplant Regional Service Centres to see the Thrust ‘O’ Meter in action and reap the benefits of high efficiency drain jets.
