CHAPTER 5: STUDIO Z OPENS Studio, Visual Art & Performance Space
Introducing “Location Studio Z” This year, Gallery Z is excited to be starting yet another a new chapter called “Location - Studio Z.” Opened in autumn of 2013, Stu- dio Z started out as the home for “Moby” The ArtMobile, but as construction progressed, the idea of transforming this spacious and interesting setting into a new gallery show- case became too enticing to resist.
To date, Studio Z has already hosted several well-attended opening receptions for major artists’ solo exhibitions. The first was for internationally renowned abstract artist, Ron Ehrlich; the second showcased another internationally known artist and performer, Kevork Mourad, whose presentation includ- ed drawing to live musical performances. The new Studio Z has also already provided a festive, art-filled venue for a community organization’s fundraising event.
CHAPTER 6: SPECIAL PROGRAMS CONTINUE Ongoing Offerings
Gallery Z/Studio Z continue to present new, inventive work by local, national, and international artists, a staple of which is high quality Armenian Art. In celebration of a variety of rich artistic cultures, different groups have been highlighted, including Rhode Island Italian Artists, the Afrocentric Show, and a Latino Artists Show. 20% of the artists we present are of Armenian heri- tage. Bérge is committed to preserving the culture and the awareness of the Armenian society that resides in the Rhode Island area by reserving about two shows out of the ten we have per year to Armenian art or artists we represent.
Gallery Z has also lent fine art for free to over a dozen restaurants, cafés, hotels, and other businesses in our area. All pieces from the Gallery’s permanent collection are available for lending through this program.
Both Gallery Z and Studio Z also offer their visually stimulating venues for rental by organizations for their own events. Past events hosted at Gallery Z have included fundraisers, dinner parties, musical perfor- mances, film screenings, weddings, holiday parties, business meetings, educational lectures, public fundraisers, and more. Hosting, catering, valet parking, and event planning services are also available upon request. And there are special discounts for nonprofits and for recurring events.
Gallery Z is also a member of Gallery Night Providence, The Providence Warwick Convention Visitors Bureau, The Federal Hill Commerce Association, and Americans for the Arts.
One of Gallery Z’s proudest accomplish- ments is that for the third consecutive year, it has been awarded the title “Best Gallery of Rhode Island: Providence County” by Rhode Island Monthly magazine, a distinc- tive honor, which is the result of the gal- lery’s progressive vision.
CHAPTER 7: A STRIKINGLY NEW CHAPTER IS WRITTEN The Federal Hill Space Transforms
This January 2014 denotes the thirteenth year of Gallery Z’s existence, since its found- ing in January 2001. Over 130 exhibits have been presented to date. Many more are in the planning stages and will take place at Studio Z at the Butcher Block Mill on Eagle Street where we will continue to carry the Gallery Night torch as the site of our main exhibits and our artists’ receptions.
The Federal Hill location magically trans- forms into Gallery Z’s “Noah’s Art Souq/Ba- zaar,” which will be ever-evolving as owner Bérge Zobian continues to work with new
designers and designs to offer enticing and distinctive new art-related specialty works and gifts.
A new atmosphere in the large exhibit room will reflect a souq, which will be packed with original Fine Art worth up to $1,000. Also featured will be folk and naïf art, antiques and collectibles, glass, figurines, jewelry, handicrafts, and other serendipitous finds from around the world.
Introducing “Dreamy Venice.” Gallery Z’s adjacent collection room has become “Dreamy Venice”, which now offers an extensive selection of colorful and lumi- nous handmade Murano glass jewelry and small specialty gifts imported from Venice by Gallery Associate Linda Kamajian.
The other half of the collection room will be partially devoted to artworks and gifts from or related to Italy, the land of origin for so many inhabitants of Federal Hill.
Gallery Z’s Noah’s Art Souq/Bazaar is offer- ing selective, art-related items celebrating the Italian cultural atmosphere of this viva- cious neighborhood— a neighborhood that continues to thrive on its numerous restau- rants, bakeries, and specialty groceries.
UNFOLDING CHAPTERS Always Moving Forward
In keeping with Bérge Zobian’s cultural background, the Gallery Z private collec- tion continues to showcase original Fine Art by Armenian, European, and American artists from the early 20th century to the present, as well as an eclectic selection of Art from emerging and established local and regional artists. To maintain and grow the culture of Fine Art and creativity in this evolving society presents an ongoing challenge—one that, Gallery Z - Studio Z is committed to meet, driven by the unique vision of owner Bérge Zobian, his dedi- cated staff, family, gallery associates and supporters of the Arts.
