Table 8.9 Impact Significance Definitions Impact Significance

Definition Major

Very large or large change in water quality, both adverse or beneficial, which are likely to be important considerations at a regional or district level because they contribute to achieving national, regional or local objectives, or, could result in exceedance of statutory objectives and / or breaches of legislation.

Moderate Minor

Negligible No impact

56.

Intermediate change in water quality, which is likely to be an important consideration at a local level.

Small change in water quality, whichmay be raised as a local issue but is unlikely to be important in the decision making process.

No discernible change in water quality. No change in water quality, therefore no impact.

For the purposes of the EIA, ‘major’ and ‘moderate’ impacts are deemed to be significant. In addition, whilst ‘minor’ impacts are not significant in their own right, they may contribute to significant impacts cumulatively or through interactions.

8.4.4 Cumulative Impact Assessment 57.

The cumulative impacts have been considered on marine water and sediment quality by taking into consideration other plans, projects and activities that may impact upon the development of the proposed East Anglia THREE project. For a general introduction to the methodology used for the cumulative impact assessment (CIA), please refer to Chapter 6 EIA Methodology.

58.

The CIA draws from findings of earlier studies undertaken to inform the East Anglia Zonal Environmental Appraisal (ZEA) (ABPmer 2012a) which considered cumulative impacts arising from the development of the whole zone and work undertaken for the EIA for the proposed East Anglia ONE project (ABPmer 2012b).

8.4.5 Transboundary Impact Assessment 59.

The potential for transboundary impacts to occur on marine water and sediment quality as a result of the activities associated with the construction, operation and decommissioning of the proposed East Anglia THREE project have also been considered.
