NEW SHERATON BRAND UNVEILED
STARWOOD HOTELS AND RESORTS has introduced Sheraton Grand – a premium brand for its top properties worldwide. The new tier will be added to around 50 Sheraton hotels by the end of this year, with plans for 100 by early 2017. Sheraton said the brand recognises “exceptional” hotels and resorts with “distinguished designs”. The first ten to join the brand include properties in Bangalore, Beijing, Edinburgh and Dubai.

SIR HOWARD DAVIES HAS HIT BACK AT CRITICISM from Gatwick CEO Stewart Wingate, saying a campaign to reverse the runway expansion recommendation is doing “him and his company no credit”. The Airports Commission chair issued a response to a 50-page document published by Gatwick, that said the Davies report contained “so many omissions and basic errors” its reliability must be questioned. “This dossier appears to repeat many points which Gatwick made to the Commission in the course of its work and which, unsurprisingly, were carefully considered,” said Davies. “They did not alter the Commission’s view that
Heathrow was the best option. Using colourful language, as Mr Wingate has done, does not turn weak points into strong ones, and does him and his company no credit.” Wingate’s response came more than a month after
Heathrow was recommended as the best airport in the south east for expansion.
The decision has been criticised by political heavy- weights, such as London mayor Boris Johnson, MP Zac Goldsmith, and environmental groups.

Airbnb: 500 companies sign up in 24 hours AIRBNB SAID IT HAS SIGNED

The home-sharing site said
more than 1,000 companies had formally made Airbnb part of their corporate travel programmes, which allows companies to book accommodation for larger groups, longer stays, relocations and meeting spaces. It also teamed up with expense management firm Concur.
Airbnb says it has
introduced a range of new features to support
business trips. It offers visibility into travel itineraries, financial reporting data and central billing to help “improve the experience” for travellers and buyers. Among the firms signed
up are Google, TBWA, Twilo and Soundcloud. “The corporate community’s response has been staggering,” said Marc McCabe, business travel lead, Airbnb. “The average business travel stay on Airbnb is 6.8 days, which shows how customers are looking for a mix of business and leisure, often adding a weekend to explore a new destination.”
