STORES WE LOVE Swimwear

music store and the most well stocked in terms of new releases from both indie and major label artists, as well as deluxe reissues (save your pennies for that William Onyeabor box set!). Stay current on homegrown musicians by consulting the Texas best-seller charts, and keep an eye on the shop’s events calendar for information on in-store performances. Records nerds should wander through the extensive music- centric book and film sections. à 600 N Lamar Blvd (512-474-2500, waterloorecords.com)

FOR SPEAKERS, TOO

The Sound Gallery Preaching a fidelity-first philosophy to listening, the Sound Gallery houses a museumlike collection of vintage amplifiers, speakers and turntables that look as good as they sound, and the record shelves are finely curated. Owner Marc Campbell is compulsively helpful and happy to guide customers through the deep selection of canonical albums, ranging from metal to jazz to electronic and even those honoring recently fallen heroes like Prince and David Bowie. The store gets bonus points for an espresso bar in the back that serves Four Barrel Coffee. à 4930 S Congress Ave (512-745-7917, soundgallery austin.com)

STILL&SEA Nestled within a small strip

mall on South Lamar Boulevard, STILL&SEA offers luxe swimsuits behind a narrow, colorful storefront. There’s a sporty vibe to most of the pieces here, and brand names include Acacia Swimwear, Aila Blue and Stone Fox Swim. Swimsuits are separated by colorblock and prints, with most separates ranging from $80 to $100—though there’s usually a discount bin in the back. Try on your new water wear in the spacious changing area, which also boasts a retail section selling jewelry and lotions. à 2110 S Lamar Blvd (512-326-1443, stillandsea.com)
