Amy’s Ice Creams It’s impossible to talk about


ice cream in Austin without mentioning Amy’s. After all, in 1984, Amy Simmons was


the first ice cream shop owner to begin experimenting with creative flavors in the city. Now the company churns more than 350 varieties of ice cream and fruit ice that rotate through multiple shops around town— and are served with flair by trick-wielding scoopers. Inside the colorful shops, you’ll find boozy varieties, like Tito’s the Dude (made with sweet cream, Tito’s vodka and Kahlua), and signature flavors like Mexican vanilla—not to mention a sizable selection of toppings.

Using traditional methods and local ingredients sourced and foraged by local expert Valerie Broussard, they craft 12 flavors of gelato and sorbet including Earl Grey and a stracciatella made with Fernet-Branca and Valrhona dark chocolate. The retro shop also carries a wide selection of amaro, best enjoyed neat alongside a scoop of gelato, and pours aperitifs like Negronis and Aperol spritzes.
