Light and the lighting effect itself are now styling elements. Automotive designers can now style the front and rear ends, including homogeneously integrating sensors, antennas, light and signal elements. According to the company, holography will also prove

to be a top technology in future automotive lighting. Together with automotive supplier Hella, it has developed a solution based on holographic films that allows various light functions to be be integrated into body parts. The solution requires little space and opens up new possibilities for using light as a design element. Another trend is seamless, homogeneous surfaces. The less drag a vehicle creates, the less energy it consumes or, in the case of electric cars, the greater its range. The company will also be showing it latest material

developments for 3D printing, including a range of filaments, powders and liquid resins offering proper- ties such as toughness and heat resistance as well as transparency and flexibility. The company has devel- oped filaments produced from flexible thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) to high strength polycarbonate (PC). Covestro says that its TPU is ideal for additive manufacturing and offers good abrasion resistance and elasticity. Typical applications include sports, footwear and automotive. Covestro PC grades are transformed into filaments by its partner Polymaker and are claimed to show good temperature stability and toughness. Applications include lighting and other areas that depend on good strength even with exposure to high temperatures. ❙

Croda Europe will be placing the main emphasis of its K display on its latest anti-scratch additives, which are claimed to reduce scratch width, depth and visibility without negative impact on parts such as low visible bloom, low odour and maintained gloss. The range includes products for a variety of polymers and

applications extending from high gloss surfaces to transparent parts. Incroslip SL and IncroMold K are designed for use with polypropylene impact copolymer and Incroslip G for polypropylene homopolymer applications. The range also includes products for transparent polymers including PC and PMMA, where the additives are said to provide good anti-scratch performance with no negative impact on clarity. Croda Europe will be co-exhibiting with the Coatings

& Polymers division, which will be showcasing its range of bio-based building blocks and speciality additives designed to improve flexibility, water resistance, impact strength and colour stability in high performance engineering plastics, elastomers and foams. ❙

DSM will be showing the latest additions to its ForTii range of PA4T-based resins, as well as the latest applications for its Akulon PA6, EcoPaxx PA410 and Arnitel TPC families. ForTii grades are high flow, easy processing resins with good mechanical, electrical and thermal proper- ties, which has seen them adopted for a wide range of surface-mount electronics applications such as DDR4 and USB Type-C connectors. The company is now initiating a push into metal replacement applications with the introduction of the MX series. ForTii MX grades are pitched at displacing alumini- um in die cast applications. “Injection moldings in ForTii MX will be able to compete advantageously with parts die-cast in aluminum, magnesium and zinc,” says Ralf Ponicki, Program Manager for Die Cast Replacement at DSM. The company says replacing die cast parts with injection moulded plastics typically yields a cost saving of 20-30%; using ForTii can lift this up to 50%. “ForTii MX exhibits a comprehensive property profile that some competitive solutions can only partially cover with using additional blend technology,” says Ponicki. “Many pure PPA-based compounds retain their good mechanical strength and dimensional stability up to
