2016 | Ancillaries At K2016, Kreyenborg will present its new PET

Booster, a continuously operating system that dries PET in less than 10 minutes. The focus is specifically on applications in the extrusion of plastic films and fibres with degassing extruders (twin-screw, planetary and multi-screw). Varying levels of input moisture – which can cause process fluctuations in the extrusion process and in end-product quality – can be eliminated with the PET Booster. By feeding pre-heated material with a consistent, low input moisture level, a smaller extruder and vacuum degassing system can be used. With existing plants, it can deliver a 30% increase in through- put. A further advantage is that the toxic liquid precipi- tate from the vacuum system is reduced by up to 50%.

Frigel’s Heavygel air-cooled central chillers incorporate many new features

using a single gauge for multiple applications. The modular FilmPro gauge can measure the

thickness of a range of film – including clear, voided, pigmented, cavitated, porous, translucent coloured and black tinted. Its measurement capability extends to single- or multi-layer products including thin, biaxially- orientated films, cast films and CPE stretch films. It can also simultaneously measure the individual thicknesses of up to six different layers in co-extruded films. Until recently, accurate thickness measurement of

voided films and battery separator films had proven difficult due to product density variation. X-ray, nuclear and basic/traditional infrared gauges all measure mass per unit area (gsm), then relate this to film thickness assuming constant density. NDC’s new measurement model combines discrete NIR filters and powerful gaug- ing algorithms – which independently measure direct film thickness, mass per unit area (gsm) and an independently computed density measurement of these products. It can also measure the oil content in PE battery films, including the wet cast film after the biax stretch part of the process.

Cold comfort Frigel will show an expanded line of chillers at K2016 – including its Heavygel 3HL and 3HM. The air-cooled Heavygel chillers are now available in 34 models, and deliver anywhere from 79 to 1,428kW (26 to 393 tonnes) of cooling capacity. Additionally, multiple models are available for operation in ambient tempera- tures that range from -15 to 55°C (5 to 131F). Heavygel chillers are available in a variety of configurations, including units designed to connect to external pumping systems, or to completely packaged systems that already contain all the necessary auxiliary components. A variety of condenser fans, such as variable speed units that automatically adjust to varying loads and ambient conditions, are also available. Among the enhancements to the series is the

incorporation of Frigel’s 3PR control technology. This gives the units Wi-Fi and Ethernet capability – allowing connection to building management systems, while providing easy access to operational data. In addition, 3PR technology allows users to control and optimise all aspects of the chillers, while Frigel technicians can remotely access the control system and view real-time data to help with troubleshooting. Meanwhile, Flexo Wash has a number of solutions

for maintaining anilox rolls and cylinders, as well as saving money on cleaning. At K2016, the company will exhibit a new anilox

cleaner that can clean two anilox rolls at the same time, in less than 15 minutes. This offers high print quality and safe maintenance of anilox rolls. The machine runs with environmentally friendly liquids that are re-used to reduce consumption, says the company. Other products on display include the Flexo Wash

plate washer, which handles 20 metres of plate in an hour, and the Multi Cylinder Cleaner – which cleans 10-12 gravure cylinders in an hour, by loading the carriage and letting the machine do the rest.
