Input capacity can also be maximised because – unlike a standard granulator – material blockages are almost impossible. The controlled feed guarantees smooth rotor operation, which reduces any sound peaks that would be produced by overfeeding.
Adjustable hopper Piovan says that its N35-60 granulator features a 90° adjustable hopper for four loading positions – ensuring that, if fed by conveyor belt, the direction of the belt can always suit the granulator hopper inlet. This means that maintenance is simplified and less operating space is required. Fast access to the machine is another important
Weima’s WKS single-shaft shredders strike a balance between high throughput and easy maintenance
factor, given that cleaning may be needed on a daily basis. This feature is a response to specific requests by numerous users, who need to insert the granulators at the end of production lines where space is often limited. N35-60 is part of a family of three granulators designed specifically to process large pieces that can be difficult to cut. Piovan says that all its new machines are fitted with its unique tangential cutting system. Rotary blades are inclined with respect to the fixed blades and positioned as close as possible to the geometric tangent of the cutting circle. In this way, high production capacities are achieved using smaller motors, with the additional benefit of minimising dust production and heat generation. Alongside its range of granulators, Piovan offers a
series of single-shaft shredder lines – for recovering purgings from start-ups or material replacements from any kind of plastics transformation process. The role of shredders partially overlaps – and sometime includes – that of granulators. At times, when granulating and recovering medium- to large-sized waste, it may be more convenient to use a shredder rather than large granulator, says Piovan. With the same-sized parts, a
shredder uses much smaller motors compared to a granula- tor. This translates into significant
energy savings in cases where high throughput
is not needed. Piovan’s range of single-shaft shredders includes
four different models, each with a hopper that can vary in size from 600 x 600mm to 1500 x 1500mm.
Compact shredder Weima says that its new WKS single-shaft shredder series – which is available in working widths of 1400, 1800, and 2200mm – was designed specially for plastic applications.
The series is aimed at a variety of shredding
applications, from voluminous objects to film. Weima says that the machines strike the right balance between high throughput and comfortable maintenance. Instead of having a horizontal ram, the new WKS series has a ‘swing-ram’, which is guided on rolls. This makes the shredder very compact and easy to maintain, while allowing a more aggressive material infeed. Optionally, an attachment can be added to the swing arm to optimise feeding. The low feeding point with a height of only 2.2m enables customers to fill the hopper via conveyor belt, forklift, or by hand. All WKS shredding machines can be run as a
stand-alone solution or as part of a multiple-stage plant – such as a plastic recycling line that includes an extrusion system. Cutting knives are available in sizes of 40, 60, and
80mm.
