lighting and an integrated light ring give the PC7 a homog- enous lighting field

Hose control During K2016, Sikora also supplied an X-ray measure- ment system to KraussMaffei Berstorff for use in a new die head – which helps manufacturers of rubber hoses increase productivity and product quality while reducing raw material consumption. The X-ray measurement system feeds into Krauss-

Maffei Berstorff’s closed loop control system to maintain accurate wall thickness automatically – rather than manually readjusting the head. The system constantly measures the wall thickness,

eccentricity, and outer diameter of the rubber hoses, then adjusts the hydraulic wall thickness centring device exactly to a hundredth of a millimeter by means of digital controllers. Automatic radial centring significantly reduces the

adjustment effort at start-up and during production – in terms of both time and material consumption. The die head is available for hose diameters of 3 to 100mm. “The system is suited to manufacturers who want to

produce hoses with a uniform wall thickness reliably over a long period, with high quality,” said Peter Roos, managing director of KraussMaffei Berstorff. He said the saving in material consumption was

“several percent” – with larger hoses benefiting from greater savings.

Thickness measurement Zumbach says that its ultrasonic Wallmaster system offers application-specific solutions for measuring and monitoring wall thickness of pipes and hoses. The measuring data processor with touch-screen display gathers data and QC automatically, it says. In combination with ultrasonic UMAC scanners,

ODAC diameter measuring gauges and error detectors, the measuring and monitoring scale can be expanded to outside and inside diameter, statistics, SPC and processor communication.

Wallmaster systems can help manufacturers cut

their expenditure on raw materials, have a return on investment time of just a few months, says Zumbach. At the lower end, it offers Wallstarter – a low-cost

processor solution for UMAC ultrasonic eccentricity and wall thickness measuring, tailored to the needs of the measuring and monitoring of monolayer synthetic pipes and hoses.

At the same time, it has developed a set of new

ultrasonic scanners for flexible diameter adjustment – for which a patent is pending – with transducers that can be individually or simultaneously adjusted to the best possible measuring position within seconds. The scanners cover an outside diameter up to 180mm and represent a smart and simple solution for full non- contact, in-line eccentricity and wall thickness meas- urement of tubes, hoses and cable jackets, says Zumbach. The company also offers in-line, cross-section

measurement of plastic and rubber profiles and pipes with its Profilemaster system – with the ability to measure all relevant dimensions including width, height, angle and radii to form a full cross-sectional picture.

Its linear sensor technology allows cost effective,

synchronous multi-axis measurement of diameter and ovality – of products up to 200mm outside diameter – thanks to 2-colour LED light sources that allow simulta- neous scanning in each axis. Integrated extraneous light filters prevent measurement errors that had previously seemed unavoidable, says Zumbach.
