Mixers | machinery feature
Battaggion has gained extensive experience in equip- ment for the mixing and compounding of rigid and flexible PVC, colour and additive masterbatches, and delicate dry blends. It highlights its TS turbomixer, which can be used alone or in combination with its OR or RF fast and slow cooling mixers. It says that the TS is the ideal solution for high-speed preparation of compounds, “using the self-heating and kinetic dispersion of components, generated by mixing blades, specially designed by Battaggion, together with the particular configuration of the tank bottom and the position of the deflector.” The company says the OR cooling mixer, thanks to its optimized length/diameter ratio and dual-flow operation, guarantees a quick and effective cooling of the compound. Turbo mixers are available with volumes up to 2,000 litres, cooling mixers up to 6,000 litres. In Italy, Battaggion cooperates with Valtorta Esercizi
Industriali, which specializes in mixing and other equipment for powders and liquids. It also has a loose marketing, manufacturing and servicing alliance in the US with another company with an illustrious history, B&P Process Equipment which was founded in 1889 as Baker Perkins. B&P Process Equipment had what was most
probably the smallest batch mixer at K 2013 on its stand. This was a table-top version of its Double Planetary Batch Mixer, which Robert Lytkowski, director of sales and marketing, says is particularly well suited for distributive mixing of nano reinforcements in compounds.
The unit has all the features of larger models, with two blades that rotate on their own axes, while orbiting
the mix vessel on a common axis. The blades are designed so that they continuously advance along the periphery of the bowl, removing material from the wall and transporting it to the interior. B&P says that after one revolution, the blades pass
through the entire bowl, after three revolutions the bulk of the material is mixed, and after only 36 revolutions, the blades contact and virtually mix the entire batch resulting in a homogeneous mixture. The company adds that, because both blades “planetate,” there are none of the dead-spots that can be found beneath alternative centred inner-blade designs. Dinnissen has a slightly different take on mixer design with its Pegasus mixer. This uses flat paddles rather than curved blades. The company says that the
