RheTech orders B&P TriVolution
B&P Process Equipment was showing its TriVolution Tri-Kneader at K 2013 and announced that it has sold one of the innovative compounding systems to RheTech. The US-based compounder will use the TriVolution to produce its RheVision family of bio-fibre reinforced polypropyl- ene compounds. The machine is to be installed at its plant in Whitmore Lake, Michigan in the summer of 2014. Jim Hicks, senior director of
process engineering at RheTech, explained that the TriVolution was selected because it offers the right com- bination of attributes to achieve the required compound quality and performance.
“Some of these attributes include a better combination of mechanical shear and heat for compounding RheVision products, and more distribu- tive and dispersive compound- ing than conventional twin- screw systems,” he said. “In addition, the TriVolution system can do this in half the footprint of a conventional twin-screw system”. kneader, which was first covered in Compounding World in early 2011 when it was a concept design, provides three axial oscillations of the shaft for each revolution, instead of the single stroke per revolution used in traditional kneaders. The design is claimed to
offer high throughputs at slower screw speeds, reduced energy consumption, higher additive loadings, shorter L/D ratios, and improved disper- sion without excessive heat. B&P reports that the
commercialisation of the TriVolution is gathering pace with six new orders being placed in the past six months. Michael Lazorchak, B&P’s global product manager for mixing systems, said: “We are still closing orders for twin-screw extruder systems, but most of those customers who come to us with the intent of expanding or replacing existing lines with a twin- screw are finding that TriVolution is a superior performer through side-by- side empirical testing and evaluation”. ❙
