Double harvest at France Champignon

La Tourte, close to Saumur, is one of the three production sites of France Champignon, where one third of French mushrooms are produced (see also page 30-32). La Tourte is a tray farm – a quite customary system in France – with 200 employees. The farm has its own compost yard, where weekly production now totals 2000 tons of phase I. On the site, 10 growing rooms are harvested manually (left picture), and 62 harvested mechanically (on the right). Each tray of 5.6 m2

holds 500 kg phase III compost, with a yield of approximately 180 kg per tray. There are four tray lines for mechanical harvest. Euromycel E58 is used for fresh market production and E21 for the processing market.
