FEATURE IN THE LOOP Pure and Simple

kersaint Cobb Pampas Nordic Stripe Denmark

This linear stripe loop pile is neutral, yet adds subtle interest to a room.

When choosing a floor you need to think about how the room is going to be used and take into account practicalities; different floorcoverings are suitable for different conditions.

There are numerous benefits to having a pure wool carpet in addition to it being a wonderfully soft and luxurious option. Pure wool carpets from Kersaint Cobb such as the Pampas Knitted range will not only add style and finesse to a home, but will also help to preserve energy. The pure wool content acts as a natural heat insulator and is one of nature’s best ways of preserving warmth. This is especially important in period homes where drafts can be an issue. It is also very effective at absorbing noise which will allow rooms such as the bedroom to remain peaceful and quiet away from the rest of the house. For a living room in particular, wool floorcoverings are ideal as they are hardwearing and soft underfoot. As a natural fibre, wool is also breathable and it will be warm in the winter but remain cool in the summer.

Alternatively sisal and seagrass have smooth fibres and offer a crisp, neat effect. Coir is a suitable for those seeking a rougher, more casual effect. Jute is the softest of the natural floorcoverings, giving a comfortable feel underfoot, however it is less hardwearing and more absorbent.

Carpets are synonymous with comfort, which is why they are the most popular choice for flooring in rooms such as the bedroom. People want to feel relaxed before they go to sleep and soft, neutral tones such as dove grey and taupe are good for this because of their harmonious, calming qualities.

On-Point

Scandi chic is an ever popular trend, with its clean, minimalistic feel. It works with simple shapes, lines and colours which in turn can enhance the mood of a room. Engineered wood flooring can be used to achieve the Scandi feel, paired with simple pale wood furniture and uncluttered accessories. Add pops of colour through patterned cushions or a vase to complete the look.

In the Loop

Laminates seem to be everywhere, but there are many reasons why we are starting to see a return to natural materials. Mike Richardson, Managing Director at Kersaint Cobb, uncovers the current trends in flooring.

We’re also seeing the return of striped carpets as popular choice for the home. This particular design is great for widening or lengthening the size of a room, and adding that extra dimension that some rooms are lacking. Using striped carpet is also an easy way to make the floor a focal point of a room. The benefits of this carpet in particular are the versatility of the designs and how you can mix and match with different colour schemes.

Lastly, oak flooring has become increasingly popular over recent months, with UK consumers embracing the simplicity and natural beauty of rustic oak, introducing colours and soft tones through greys and pale whites to add a modern twist on classic materials. The interest in products with a “vintage” feel continues to remain a popular trend in our homes and dark woods are ideal for traditional schemes, adding a feeling of warmth and depth to a room.
