FLOORING | FLOWCRETE

Featuring three new colours, Alaska, Glacier and Polar, and providing superior UV light resistance, these floors help large scale commercial locations to apply and maintain a seamless and visually appealing white floor finish. The three Mondèco Arctic systems combine a white binder with a blend of light coloured aggregates, mirror glass and metallic particles in differing quantities, creating stylised white surfaces with subtly different aggregate patterns.

Mondéco floors can even help developments to meet sustainable construction goals, as over 50% of the shimmering decorative aggregates incorporated in a Mondèco Mirrazzo finish are recycled to help minimise the environmental impact of a floor’s installation.

Flowcrete UK’s wide range of epoxy, polyurethane and methyl methacrylate flooring solutions has been utilised by high- profile locations to create a variety of different effects.

Flowcrete UK offers its top tips on how to use seamless flooring to create a grand entrance to your commercial property.

Installing floors that meet the functional and aesthetic demands in each part of a commercial development requires the careful analysis of a variety of factors, including the site’s future use, the visual impact and the needs of the construction timetable.

In the main customer-facing areas it is important for the floor to enhance the visitor experience with eye-catching aesthetics that work with the interior design to create a pleasant and inviting environment.

However, heavy foot traffic, abrasions, frequent cleaning and spillages of food and beverages can all ruin the floor’s appearance – which will have an inevitable and negative effect on the customer’s opinion of the venue.

To overcome this issue, Flowcrete UK’s seamless epoxy resin terrazzo range Mondéco has been utilised in large-scale hospitality, retail and leisure locations around the world, including in the SSE Hydro arena, Westfield London shopping centre, the Nanjing Youth Olympic Centre and even in Alexander McQueen’s Beijing Boutique.

The hard-wearing, easy-to-clean finish of a Mondéco floor is able to maintain an unblemished surface for an extended period of time. The choice of colours and decorative aggregates that architects can draw upon, combined with the ability to create floors in bespoke patterns, means facilities can install surfaces that reflect their own style, brand and image.

Flowcrete UK has recently launched the Mondéco Arctic collection, which has been designed to provide commercial spaces with crisp and gleaming white surfaces that evoke an elegant, luxurious style.

For example, The Blue Planet in Denmark recently installed a smooth, light reflective surface using Flowcoat TL that would shine flickering light spots across the floor, helping to create an underwater illusion. The floor had to be strong, reliable and easy to maintain to ensure that this illusion could be consistently delivered despite hundreds of thousands of annual visitors.

Developments that want a seamless resin finish but which have only a limited window of time to install the floor can utilise rapidly curing methyl methacrylate resin systems. This technology means that the floor’s rate of cure can be reduced to just two hours. Available in various decorative styles, this solution is as suitable for front-of-house areas as it is in more demanding back-of-house locations.

The first impression that many visitors have of a commercial building is not a main atrium, lobby or shop but instead it is the car park – therefore it is important to apply the same standards to the floor here as in other more glamorous parts of the complex. Flowcrete UK’s Deckshield car park deck coatings combine both looks and performance and are strong enough to withstand the continuous movement of heavy vehicles as well as exposure to chemicals such as fuel and automotive oils.

Architects can find out how to create bespoke surfaces across wide expanses of flooring with seamless epoxy resin terrazzo by participating in Flowcrete UK’s RIBA accredited CPD seminar.
