WHAT’S NEW? WIDE HORIZONS MEET

THE CHALLENGE Wide Horizons’ drones successfully completed a survey of a listed 19th century hall converted for residential living, without the use of scaffolding.

The client instructed the Wide Horizons team to provide a cost- effective and efficient solution that would still produce the detail required, without the need for scaffolding and difficult access solutions to be installed to the roof area. Residents had previously ruled out the erection of scaffolding due to the aesthetics and substantial costs involved in the setup.

With the parameters and objectives of the survey understood, the Wide Horizons drone team was tasked with carrying out a full photographic condition survey of all external areas. The use of UAV’s (drones) allowed the quality and detail required to be captured by segmenting the roof areas into manageable sections, allowing a comprehensive flight survey of each area. On the elevations, the use of the high definition camera attached to the drone allowed a detailed inspection of all parapet walls, window frames and stonework in a far more efficient and accurate way than if visually inspected by our surveyor at ground level only.

The internal areas of the property were then subject to a detailed condition report, which was then combined with a survey carried out on external elevations and complete roof areas. The surveys were then completed using an experienced RPAS team, utilising our qualified building surveyors to interpret the data captured during the project.

The project resulted in the completion of a comprehensive condition survey report, which included more detailed information on the building’s condition due to the use of commercial drone technology. The information provided within the report was then utilised and extracted by our surveying team to create a realistic and feasible preventative maintenance schedule.
