AWARDS 2015 TOMORROW’S FLOORING
ART SELECT STONES KARNDEAN DESIGNFLOORING
In April 2014, Karndean Designflooring unveiled its premium Art Select Stones collection featuring four slate, three marble, three travertine and four limestone designs. Inspired and inspiring; it introduces the company’s most intricate and realistic designs, each handcrafted to reflect the unique patterns and textures of real stone.
Each design has been handcrafted to match inspiration stones recovered by hand from various locations throughout the world including a former ‘Parliament House’ building in Melbourne, natural hot springs in Yellowstone National Park and a quarry in the Province of Massa, Tuscany.
At a time when architects continue to look to bring nature indoors, this is exactly what Karndean Designflooring has achieved with this collection. From the striking earthy tones of travertine, to the contrasting rich and cool hues of slate, and classic look of marble and limestone, there’s a stone design to match all schemes.
It all started during a visit to a former ‘Parliament House’ building in Melbourne, where Karndean’s product designer was immediately struck by the rich hues and intricate textures of the slate recovered from the steps of this building before its relocation to the capital of Canberra in 1988.
BACK TO THE FLOOR FORBO
Launched in November 2012, this successful closed-loop scheme collects and reprocesses Marmoleum, Tessera Carpet Tiles, Flotex, cushioned vinyl and Smooth Vinyl installation off-cuts.
This year Forbo’s scheme has launched a trial collection of mixed cushioned flooring off-cuts, including its own and other brands of cushioned flooring. It’s the only aspect of the scheme where different brands of mixed flooring, other than just Forbo’s, are accepted for recycling.
The off-cuts are sent to Forbo’s factory in Ripley where they are added to the manufacturing process and used to make the backing for Flotex and Westbond carpet tiles.
BTTF plays a key part in Forbo’s drive to reduce its environmental impact by 25% by the end of 2015 through applying its 4R’s – Reduce, Renew, Reuse and Recycle. Forbo believes environmental responsibility begins with the way products are designed and raw materials are sourced. The re-use and recycling of both internal and external waste PVC has led to increased recycled content backings in its products.
