COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY Ashore To Be Sure
Following their recent announcement of a partnership with Irish distributors Dormer, we caught up with Ideal Manufacturing to find out more about the deal, and why they decided to expand into the Emerald Isle.
From their modest manufacturing base on the outskirts of a small village in Northamptonshire, Ideal have been formulating and manufacturing professional laundry chemicals for 35 years. They also produce a set of professional hygiene chemicals and specialist cleaning chemicals for the food processing and catering industry, along with a range of janitorial chemicals and automotive cleaning products. In addition, Ideal formulates bespoke products and can offer contract manufacturing facilities to a number of exciting brands and distributors under their own label.
Ideal has recently re-defined their laundry range as The Periodic Table of Laundry, with every chemical element that the modern professional launderer and textile care professional requires. This now includes dry cleaning (Ashore), wet cleaning (Ahoy), stain removal and carpet cleaning. Ideal has also continued to develop innovative solutions to common professional laundry processing problems and they can now offer highly effective regeneration and totally unique recovery processes for damaged linen.
Export Strategy With the focus clearly having been on improving their offering and developing business in the UK, the primary objective has been to become the brightest name in British professional Laundry and Textile Care Chemicals on home soil. Established in 1980, to provide high quality detergents to boost commercial laundry plant efficiency, Ideal is very proud to still be an independent, family-run manufacturer. Dr Mike Kalli, Founder and Managing Director of Ideal, said: “We constantly strive to inject new ideas in respect to processing

methods and problem resolution. In concentrating on our strengths in the domestic market we have seen that enquiries from abroad have come to us. We are confident that we have something exciting to offer the industry outside of the UK.
"Even without seeking international business, Ideal has shipped product to most parts of Europe, The Middle East, Africa and China. We often get approached by customers, brands and potential distributors from overseas who see the value in working with an expert British formulator and manufacturer."
As a small, passionate team that works closely with its partners, Ideal has a plan in place for steady growth. Dr Mike added: “We feel that there is a place in the market for an independent company like us to thrive. We’re working extremely hard to develop the design and visual identity of everything we produce, as well as to improve manufacturing efficiencies, reduce packaging waste and develop even more environmentally friendly detergents and solutions for the future. We’re proud of the hard work that has been put into developing the highest quality products for the domestic market over the last 34 years, and we see no reason why we cannot supply the same products abroad.”
As part of their marketing strategy Ideal has attended a number of trade shows in recent years. In October 2014, they exhibited at ExpoDetergo, it was their first ever international trade show, and it was earlier last year, at the LCT (Laundry & Cleaning Today) CleanEx show, held at Ascot Racecourse at the end of April, where they first met Ian Richards from Dormer, Ireland. The meeting came at a good time...
Dormer For more than 20 years, Dormer has established itself as a leading supplier to the dry cleaning and laundry sector in Ireland, developing an extensive modern product range and a great reputation. Dormer also has the field expertise to install dry cleaning and laundry equipment.
There are more parallels – like Ideal, Dormer is a family run business. Based on the former site of the Castlebellingham Brewery in beautiful Castlebellingham, County Louth, and still employing local residents. Dormer can provide their customers with an excellent delivery service, with delivery vans going to all counties in Ireland. In recent years Dormer has also expanded the range of object and surface cleaning products and is now selling these products to hotels, restaurants and nursing homes.
Irish Market According to Ian Richards, the Irish economy is gradually recovering after the global financial crisis of 2008, and
