Getting rid of graffiti is a problem that has consistently plagued street cleaners – however, building restoration experts Thomann-Hanry believe that they have found a clear solution (literally!) for the problem. We spoke to them to find out more about Aqua Fend Liquid Glass.

Graffiti is an unwanted epidemic that has been in existence since the time of Ancient Egyptians and the Roman Empire. Irrespective of location, property owners are continually trying to find the most effective way to remove it.

This has led to the cost of removing graffiti becoming an ever increasing one. For instance, in the UK alone, the cost of removal is estimated at £1billion a year.

This figure however, does not tell the whole story. In addition to this, it has also been estimated that property values in areas blighted by graffiti can fall by as much as 15%, while the cost to the taxpayer for policing these issues must also be taken into consideration.

There have been numerous methods that have been trialled with the aim of providing a solution, which range from tougher policing to expensive graffiti removal systems which are not guaranteed to preserve the substrate upon which the graffiti has been placed.


BETTER THAN CURE This poses the question, why not focus on prevention rather than cure? Finding the right method of prevention can save a business or individual an incredible amount of both time and money.

One such method of prevention is the newly launched Aqua Fend Liquid Glass (or Aqua Fend LG). This innovative new product provides an all-in-one invisible protection and has been developed by chemists for Thomann-Hanry.

Creating an ultra thin, transparent and film-free protective layer which is just 100 nanometres thick – a nanometre being 80,000 times thinner than a human hair – new Aqua Fend LG prevents unwanted pigments penetrating its coating. This results in graffiti and other contaminants being removed simply with water or if necessary, a low cost mild detergent.

AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION Arguably the most powerful anti- graffiti product on the market, Aqua Fend LG has numerous benefits over traditional polyurethane, rough coverings and two part systems.

Based on Nano technology, Aqua Fend LG is pure glass broken down to a molecular level and suspended in a liquid which evenly separates the molecules and ensures complete and overlapping coverage. Application is simple using a brush or sprayer. Once dry an invisible and long lasting coating remains.

This coating is incredibly hard wearing, resistant to UV, alkalis and acids as well as extreme temperatures. A clean, dry surface can be quickly and easily retreated.

Once the facade is coated, graffiti can be removed easily, deterring repeat offenders and offering significant savings to long term cleaning costs normally associated with graffiti.
