MILLIKEN ENTERS ANOTHER DIMENSION WITH LASTEST COLLECTION: COLOUR
COMPOSITIONS Colour Compositions is Milliken’s first collection to be produced in a ‘plank’ format (250x1000mm rectangular carpet tiles). Creative inspiration is drawn from the large swaths of colour represented in the abstract expressionism style of colour-field painting. Harmonious and balanced or challenging and unexpected, the new tile shape and design make possible an even more adventurous exploration of colour and form. Now the floor plane has a new facet, enabling greater experimentation and balancing the relationship between scale, shape, rhythm and pattern.
The designer, architect or specifier is given the ability to create their own Colour Compositions. To compose a visual story through placement and arrangement of components. Coloured hues, brightness and saturation,
grain. The incredible colour spectrum helps shape a diverse range of interior environments, from playful and imaginative to modern and sophisticated. With Colour Compositions there is the ability to create large-scale pattern through strategic tile placement allowing the floor to be a subtle or dominant architectural experience. The naturally gradated patterns are made possible by Milliken’s proprietary high resolution digital patterning technology Millitron. Gradation within tiles easily coordinates with interior finishes, and plank size invites creative placement for inspiring patterns or wayfinding.
the moving of elements, until the arrangement is pleasing and works with its four walls. Milliken’s new floorcovering visualiser online tool makes this process even easier for the designer, enabling endless possibilities to be tried out.
Non-linear colour combinations provide a highly textural, organic aesthetic reminiscent of a natural
that serve as an antidote to the stresses and strains of work.
“The importance of nature and mimicking its capacity to soothe is not to be underestimated for today’s commercial interiors,” explained Andrew Sibley, sales director. “It is something that interior designers are turning to provide respite in the working environment, perhaps almost subconsciously, and one that’s extremely effective.

“We launched the Handcraft collection a year ago, as our way of embracing nature within our carpet tiles. Embodying the power of nature and our ability to craft it into beautiful everyday objects, we are delighted with the impact Handcraft is having on the sector.”
Each of the four styles translates nuances of subtle pattern and organic hues into carpet tiles that provide a practical and usable covering in commercial office spaces. Moss honours the often-overlooked detail that reveals beauty in closer inspection, while Leaf captures the transition as fallen leaves deconstruct
The Colour Compositions collection is divided into two parts: Volume I has 48 colours, divided into 16 families of three. In Volume II 27 colours are divided into three accent colour families. Within each family there is a palette of colour, saturation and tone to play with. Designs range from the bold ‘Abstraction – Allover’ to the more subtle gradated ‘Soft Clay – Ash Glaze’.

through weather-worn pattern. Willow is a design that mimics the wonder of natural bends and rivers of layered texture crafted in natural bark. Finally, Grind celebrates the journey rather than the destination; unpaved roads and less-travelled paths carved through the landscape.
Enjoying universal performance, no matter which inspiration you take, designs and colours in the Handcraft collection can be used to create unique and wonderful spaces that celebrate nature’s rich complexity. Moss, Leaf and Willow can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content, with Grind offering a purposeful juxtaposition.
As an associate member of the Healthy Seas programme, modulyss has designed the Handcraft collection using high-grade ECONYL nylon yarn derived from recovered fishing nets and other waste materials. Pairing this yarn with a recycled primary and secondary backing in back2back, the Handcraft collection not only celebrates nature, but is also a little kinder to it.
