GAME, SET AND MATCH

Cerramique Internationale has helped a Wimbledon pub to serve up a treat.

When one of Wimbledon’s most iconic pubs was embarking on a major renovation to its bar and restaurant, as well as adding more than 15 rooms to its impressive portfolio, it turned to Leeds-based Fusion by Design and tile specialist Ceramique Internationale to deliver a sophisticated country-club feel.

Located in an affluent corner of south west London since the 1800s and just five minutes away from the world-famous All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, The Dog & Fox pub, restaurant, hotel and events venue, which is part of the Young’s estate, wanted the restorations to create elegant spaces with a welcoming feel. Fusion by Design was employed to refurbish the pub and restaurant, as well as creating the design for the new hotel rooms and connecting en suites.

Once the overarching plans were in place, the interior designers consulted long-time collaborators, Ceramique Internationale, to help provide the perfect tiles for the project. The long-standing working relationship between the businesses meant that Fusion by Design was confident Ceramique Internationale had the experience and knowledge to select and source the best tiles to fit into the pub’s décor and overall design.

Ceramique Internationale liaised with Europe’s finest tile manufacturers – some of which have been working with the tile supplier since it was established more than 40 years ago. The company put forward a selection of samples to match Fusion by Design’s preferred design but ultimately, it was a manufacturer also located in the south of England that struck a chord with the Dog & Fox.

Original Style UK is a successful tile manufacturer and distributor based in Exeter, Devon. Producing tiles for more than 30 years, the manufacturer uses a combination of quality raw materials, traditional techniques alongside new technology, and a skilled and dedicated work force.

As one of Original Style’s preferred suppliers, Ceramique International was able to provide the pub with the manufacturer’s Odyssey tiles, which offer a tapestry-styled patterned floor, to surround the bar area and restaurant.

Available in a number of different patterns, the Odyssey tile is perfect for creating a unique flooring design. This was further accentuated with stunning border tiles from leading Italian manufacturer, Casalgrande Padana. Ceramique Internationale suggested and supplied a range of 300x300mm Marte in Nero Acapulco to beautifully edge the Odyssey range, with its slight marble veining perfectly balancing the design. The hardwearing properties within these ceramic tiles made it suitable for high traffic areas, such as bars, with the Odyssey’s patterned tiles helping to disguise the effects of everyday use.

A short time after the bar and restaurant areas were completed, Fusion by Design set to work on the Dog & Fox’s room conversion. Previously utilised as staff flats, each rooms hints at the heritage of Wimbledon’s oldest public house, and once again, the interior designers liaised with Ceramique Internationale, this time to supply wall tiles for the en suite bathrooms.

Ceramique provided a range of Oxford tiles by Marazzi, to perfectly complement the walk-in shower. The white Oxford tile is a large- format take on the traditional beveled metro tile, updating a classic, stylish look.

Director of Ceramique Internationale, Cameron Fraser, said: “As one of the largest suppliers of ceramic tiles in the UK with more than 40 years’ experience, we work hard to build relationships with Europe’s largest tile manufacturers, and as a result, we’re able to offer the finest products on the market, which is a huge benefit to interior designers and clients.

“This helps us to develop really close-working – and long- lasting – relationships with interior designers, who benefit from both our huge stock and outstanding service, which often sees us go far and beyond the clients’ expectations.”
