FIRST-CLASS DESIGN FROM BRINTONS
From a classic, stylish and sophisticated design, to an urban-style look; carpet from Brintons has helped to deliver two very different projects in two of the Middle East’s largest airports.
ABU DHABI INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT World-renowned carpet manufacturer, Brintons, has created stunning bespoke carpet tile designs for the prestigious Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The project, which used 6,000m2 carpet tiles and took just eight months from design to completion, included carpets in the Sky Bridge and T1 departure lounges.
Based in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, the airport is the second largest in the UAE, featuring three major international terminals.
The designs were inspired by the existing linear décor of the terminal’s interior, combined with the style of the airport’s exterior. The carpets’ unique style reflected the original designs of the airport through its pattern and colour palette.
Nevena Venter, Senior Project Manager for Commercial Interface at Abu Dhabi Airport, said: “The abstract pattern featured on the carpet tiles was chosen to be in line with the design intention of the Sky Bridge, bus gates and transfer passenger screening buildings’ designs.
“The aim in our interiors was to create a cohesive visual between the exteriors, interiors and aesthetics of the whole airport. The interesting design unites the visuals of the airport, creating a modern and contemporary style that flows throughout the buildings.”
Designs included intricate linear and geometric patterns, including blue, black, white and grey hues, mirroring the airport’s corporate colours and current interiors. Striking white and electric blue lines contrasted against deep blacks and greys to create visually eye-catching walkways

throughout the airport, reflecting the vibrant blue lighting that is featured throughout the terminals.
Vernon Palmer, Regional Sales Manager for Middle East and Africa, commented: “It was extremely important throughout this project for the carpets to reflect the iconic colours and styles for which the airport is well known. Our designers ensured that the spirit of Abu Dhabi was captured throughout the energetic print.
“Tiles are ideal for projects such as these because they can be more economical over the life of the product, as there is no underlay requirement and installation is quicker. They can be suited to a range of commercial environments and one distinct benefit that tiles offer is that they can have acoustic insulation properties, which reduces ambient noise created by impact or foot movement, making it perfect for high footfall locations such as airports.”
For over two decades, Brintons has been manufacturing tiles for a variety of commercial applications and projects across the globe. The company has become renowned for its high-quality woven Axminster products that meet the extreme conditions of the contract market.
DUBAI INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT Brintons, has created the finishing touches to Dubai’s iconic International Airport through the use of its unique HD Weave Technology.
Situated in the Al Garhoud district, Dubai International Airport is the country’s primary airport and the world’s busiest by international passenger traffic. Located over 7,200 acres, the airport contains three terminals, three concourses, two cargo mega terminals and an expo centre with three exhibiting halls.
As part of an expansion project to extend the airport with a third terminal, Brintons has supplied bespoke carpet for the luxurious Emirates First Class Duty Free Lounge.
Working together over six months, the airport chose a design from Brintons’ Skulduggery HD Weave Collection to capture the simplicity and elegance of the airport’s interiors through a modernistic combination of geometric yet sophisticated patterns.
Inspired by music, the Skulduggery collection transforms graffiti, rap and heavy metal into an urban, manmade theme through a spectrum of shades. Brintons’ latest HD Weave Technology allows up to 32 different shades to be weaved into one design, creating truly breathtaking photo- realistic results.
To perfectly encompass the modern and sleek interior style of the airport’s newest terminal, the bold Skulduggery design was created using a palette of soft greys and browns to mirror the matching surrounding marble interiors of the Duty Free Lounge.
Meghna Rawat, Field Designer for Brintons Middle East and Africa, said: “To reflect the airport and the country’s ultra modern architecture and elegance, the designs consist of crisp geometric designs in a palette of rich light and dark shades. The colour grey used throughout the scheme is associated with formality and sophistication, which Dubai perfectly encompasses, making it the perfect shade to use throughout this carpet.
“At Brintons, all our carpets are made up of premium quality materials, including a high content of British wool and 20% nylon, which prolongs the life expectancy of the finished product, making it ideal for projects such as these.”
