THE SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR POLYFLOR

Our makeover this month takes us to the Imperial War Museum Duxford where Polyflor was called upon to provide flooring during a refurbishment on its café and kitchen.

High performance sheet flooring from vinyl flooring specialist Polyflor was recently used to create a statement design floor in The Armoury Café and Kitchen at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, in Cambridgeshire.

Designed by London based SHH Architecture & Interior Design, this refurbished restaurant area at Britain’s largest aviation museum features a monochrome floor design which was created using 300m² of Polyflor’s Classic Mystique PUR vinyl flooring. Installed by flooring contractors Key Floors, the Smokestone, Nocturne and Quartz shades form concentric circles that echo the Royal Air Force logo.

to create a bold, eye-catching pattern. Polyflor’s collection ticked the boxes for both performance and design.”

The flooring design was produced with help from Polyflor’s in-house Design Service team who used waterjet cutting technology to create perfect circles which were pieced together on-site. The precision of the waterjet allows Polyflor’s team to create virtually any shape, including intricate patterns and logos using vinyl flooring.

INCORPORATING

BRAND IDENTITY Polyflor’s Design Service gives customers the flexibility to create logos, motifs and insignia to incorporate brand identity throughout a space. The team can suggest designs, colours, layouts and product choices to fit in with any interior scheme. Once a design has been agreed and reproduced on a computer, the software specifies the Polyflor material and colours, as well as the shape and dimensions of every element of the design. Polyflor uses an advanced computerised waterjet cutting machine, which works with astonishing precision to produce highly intricate designs. As the design is cut from the vinyl, the various parts of the ‘jigsaw’ are checked and carefully aligned for a perfect result.

Built on the site of RAF Duxford, a historic airfield used in the first and second world wars, the Imperial War Museum features a Battle of Britain exhibition, American Air Museum and a 1940’s Operations Room, including nearly 200 aircraft, military vehicles, artillery and minor naval vessels in seven main exhibition buildings.

Sophie Tipper, Interior Designer at SHH Architecture and Interior Design, commented: “We chose Classic Mystique flooring for this project as the client needed a durable product that was easy to maintain but could be used

OF SHADES Classic Mystique PUR retains the uncomplicated, clean architectural feel of subtle neutrals, but now with added warmer tones for a perfectly balanced combination. The 16 shades available in the range have a tonal non- directional appearance with a duotone chip decoration and marbleised tonal highlight chips. 2mm gauge Classic Mystique flooring is available in both a sheet and tile format. Polyflor homogeneous PUR ranges demonstrate outstanding durability and abrasion-

resistance. Classic Mystique PUR achieves the abrasion wear rating EN ISO 10581 Type I, demonstrating excellent resilience and long life.

HARDWEARING

AND EFFICIENT The hardwearing Classic Mystique range is enhanced with PUR, Polyflor’s exclusive and robust polyurethane reinforcement which is cross-linked and UV-cured to provide superior cleaning benefits, which is a practical benefit for busy leisure and restaurant environments. Polyflor PUR facilitates a lifelong polish-free maintenance regime, leading to overall maintenance cost savings of 48% over a 20+-year- life, when compared to untreated homogeneous vinyl flooring. In addition, fewer cleaning chemicals and greatly reduced power requirements mean reduced environmental impact.

The Classic Mystique PUR collection contains recycled content, is 100% recyclable through the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme and is made up of approximately 25% recycled content. This range has also been individually certificated with a BRE Global A+ rating for major use areas.
