Volvo Masters 2015/16
Every two years Volvo Construction Equipment holds the Volvo Masters tournament worldwide to find the best team of service and part technicians. The 2013/14 Global Masters tournament was won by the Warrington team in Great Britain so all eyes are on GB to see if they can bring home the trophy once again.
The current world champions: Team leader Mark Armsworth, Matthew Needham, Billy Heywood and Chris Walker
The Masters was initially conducted in 1990 as a part of the 30 year anniversary of Volvo CE Service Training. From 1990 to 1996 it was structured as individual competitions among service technicians and in 1998 they began competing in teams. Since 2000 the groups consisted of both parts and service technicians in regional and global finals. The competition was advertised internally throughout Great
Britain and those interested in taking part registered online. The competition is divided into rounds, the first two rounds being held at a local level. The first round for selection took place during September 2015, those registered had to answer 30 multiple choice questions on an individual basis. The highest scorers from each of Volvo CE’s eight Customer Support Centres were formed into teams, two service engineers and one parts technician. Each
team were then given a series of 50 multiple choice questions which they had to answer as a group, following this process they attended the local practical round. The local practical round of the Volvo Masters took place
24–25 November at Duxford, home to the Technical Training Centre for Volvo CE in Great Britain. Eight practical tasks on a variety of machines awaited the teams with each task lasting one hour. Each station was supervised by a product specialist who assessed the teams’ performance. Each team was assessed in a number of ways including how the fault was approached, working as a team and diagnostic planning. Besides showing their skills and knowledge, participants also had to demonstrate their professionalism and commitment to Volvo’s core values of quality, safety and environmental care as they worked.
