If you go down to the woods today . . .you’re in for a big surprise
Particularly if you come across Alex Blake, proprietor of A & P Blake Forestry Services and a woodsman with over thirty-five years of experience in tree management.
Alex Blake is passionate about what he does which is primarily managing woodlands for private estates. This involves the thinning out and felling of wood that has become diseased and a potential hazard in favour of the continued growth of healthy trees. With his business located in the small hamlet of Bainton near Bicester there isn’t much woodland left in the surrounding areas of Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire and Buckinghamshire that Alex isn’t familiar with. His company, A & P Blake Forestry Services is very much a family affair.
Supported by his wife Pauline (the P in A & P) and his two sons James and Will, Alex has grown a reputation in this part of the country for providing a professional service in tree management and effective wood and timber disposal. This includes a close liaison with the Forestry Commission and obtaining the necessary licences to manage tree populations on many private estates and farmland. The main bi-product for the company is the production of firewood which is sold commercially to large hotels in the locality as well as to domestic users. In total A & P Blake will produce anywhere around 2000 tonnes of firewood a year, split and cut to various sizes, then seasoned for two years before selling to the market.
