appointed three presidential task forces to look into (1) committee structure and participation; (2) the relationship
to the opportunities and disruptions created by innovation.
between brands and
innovation; and (3) ways to build bridges both within and outside the IP community. Te chief goals behind the creation of these task forces are to help the association adapt to and prepare for the future. All three task forces have made excellent
progress: 1) INTA has more than 2,700 volunteer members serving on more than 200 committees, subcommittees and project teams. With recommendations to be in place for the 2016–2017 term, the key goals of
the committee structure and
participation task force are to align INTA’s committees more closely with the strategic plan and mission, and to make volunteer opportunities available to more members.
2) Te brands and innovation task force is exploring how brands stimulate innovation and how they
pave the runway for
innovation to take flight. One particular recommendation from this group was for INTA to provide its members with resources to better anticipate and respond
3) Te building bridges task force looked at how the association can enhance its existing partnerships and foster new partnerships with all stakeholders in IP, including with governments, IP and non-IP organisations, and consumers.
Te outcome of the work of these task forces
now needs to be digested. It will be shared in greater detail during the opening ceremony at the upcoming annual meeting, and implemented in the coming years. Looking
ahead,
a
new presidential task force on association governance will study INTA’s bylaws and make recommendations on improvements and transparency. As 2015 INTA president I am really excited by
all these initiatives and projects. It is a pleasure to share them here with WIPR readers and I wish the publication all the best on the 10th anniversary of its Annual. INTA is working in new and exciting ways
with governments, associations and the public. We always welcome the opportunity to meet, and learn from, officials at national IP offices, customs, courts and other institutions to further

our shared goals. It is a true privilege to serve as the 2015 INTA president and to work with a community of
exceptionally talented and
dedicated volunteers and staff. I invite you to join us in advancing INTA’s mission to support trademarks and related IP in order to protect consumers and to promote fair and effective commerce around the world.
