American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and the Beijing-based Quality Brands Protection Committee.
INTA has also been very active on education: • Te association has continued its partnerships with IP offices to provide industry training seminars, which bring together INTA corporate members with trademark examiners and senior IP office staff. In 2014, we held events with the SIC and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, OHIM and the USPTO, among others. We look forward to expanding our partnerships with IP offices in other jurisdictions.
• Tis year we have hosted two conferences—in New York City on 3D printing, and in Tokyo to discuss the coming into force of two major pieces of legislation covering non-traditional marks and geographical indications (GIs). ahead,
• Looking this October INTA will
continue its engagement with trademark offices when it convenes its first-ever Trademark Administrators and Practitioners Meeting outside North America, at the
OHIM headquarters in Alicante, Spain. Tis will provide trademark administrators and paralegals around the world an opportunity to engage with examiners from OHIM and a number of national IP offices within the EU.
• In November, INTA leadership and volunteers will convene in Panama City for the 2015 leadership meeting. Tis meeting coincides with the expansion of the Panama Canal: 80% of goods passing through the canal are believed
to be goods in transit; transit of goods through free trade zones and free ports contributes significantly to the trafficking of counterfeits. Te 2015 leadership meeting will allow
INTA volunteers to raise awareness among Panamanian leaders about the challenges of combating counterfeiting while advocating for measures to halt the trans-shipment and transit of
counterfeit goods through the Panama Canal.
• Finally, in December we will meet in Rome for a conference on the interaction between GIs and indicators and trademarks. Among other pertinent issues, this conference will provide registrants with an opportunity to come together around the same table and discuss the Lisbon Treaty. A major part of INTA’s work to promote trademarks and related IP can be found in its online global trademark resources. In 2014, we added more than 20 new jurisdictions to the country guides online database, bringing the total number of jurisdictions covered to more than 100. Tis year, we expect to launch a new multi-jurisdictional database on GIs, certification marks and collective marks. Back in 2014, INTA president Mei-lan Stark
