INDUSTRY NEWS
New corrosion sealing innovation Sealings expert Flexitallic
has launched a new product, Corriculite, for
use in corrosion- sensitive
applications,
including those prevalent in the off shore industry. A newly developed gasket fi ller material, Corriculite tackles
the problem of fl ange face corrosion on bolted joints in seawater and hydrocarbon applications, supporting
industry’s focus on maximising asset integrity, the extension of equipment life and increased operational
productivity. DIGITAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE STANDARD
A technology-led initiative to transform the way oil and gas workers around the world undertake safety-critical emergency response training has received cross-continent support from organisations keen to be part of its development. More than a dozen training
providers from as far afi eld as the UK, the Netherlands, Brunei, Australia, Abu Dhabi and the USA have signed up to become champions of the Digital Standards Integration, an industry programme to create
Cyber security partnership
Darktrace and Siemens have entered into a strategic partnership to bring cutting-edge cyber defence for operational technology (OT) to electric utilities and the oil and gas industry. With Darktrace’s Industrial
Immune System and Siemens’ domain OT security expertise, the partnership will enable customers to enhance their agility in detecting and responding to cyber-attacks.
regulated, consistent online safety and training standards with world- class credibility and compliance. Companies including Maersk
Training, IFAP, MTC International, ERGT Australia, STC-KNRM Off shore Safety, AIS Group, Shell Roberts, M&A Safety Services, Petans, Bastion Technologies, GTSC, Yassine Marine Services, Survival Systems India and Megamas Training will all contribute to the creation, testing and pilot of the digital integration ahead of its launch later in 2017.
Largest undeveloped discovery announced
An oil exploration fi rm has made what it has described as the “largest undeveloped discovery” of oil in UK waters. Hurricane Energy said one billion barrels of recoverable oil could be contained within the Greater Lancaster Area, 60 miles west of Shetland. The company hopes to begin production in 2019. The discovery is considerably
larger than the average fi nd in recent years, which has been about 25 million barrels.
FIRST OF ITS KIND PIG
Inpipe Products successfully completed an integrated seawater inlet cleaning system for a series of inlet pipelines in what is believed to be the largest pigging project in the world. Commissioned by a South Korean conglomerate, the UK-based company has supplied a fi rst of its kind integrated solution including cleaning tools, loading equipment, launching equipment together with an integrated tracking system that will be used on some of the world’s largest pipelines, and measuring 90in in diameter. The cleaning tool – commonly
known as a pig or scraper – will be delivered for use at an Algerian power plant for fi ve pipelines carrying cooling water. The pig will maintain the pipeline’s integrity and prevent internal build up of contaminants to facilitate optimum throughput capacity within the pipeline.

In response to customer demands
for an improved material with strong anti-corrosion characteristics, Flexitallic has created this new fi ller material for a range of spiral-wound gaskets, specifi cally designed for use in corrosion-sensitive environments in industries such as oil and gas, power and marine. Corriculite ensures that seals maintain integrity by preventing galvanic corrosion and is Fire Safe to API 6FB.
