Area Committees help green space blossom
GHA’s Area Committees are improving communities and making green spaces blossom.
In Summerston, in the NORTH WEST, GHA
is creating a new green space to improve the area’s appearance, cut crime and boost safety. Old and overgrown plants will be taken
away, and the area will be re-turfed and given new topsoil. The £83,000 project will also address concerns about safety, with new steps and handrails installed in the area. Work will also be carried out on the garden area of Crathie Court, in Partick. Old tree stumps will be taken away, shrubs cut back and new plants will be put in. Meanwhile, at Clarion Road and Archerhill Road, old and diseased trees will be removed, paving replaced as well as new benches and new handrails put in, as part of a £33k project. Hundreds of tenants in the NORTH EAST
enjoyed colourful gala days and parades, pictured, at Cranhill, Ruchazie and Garthamlock over the summer. Entertainment was laid on and people learned about GHA services and apprenticeship opportunities. The committee is also planning
environmental and safety improvements in the north east. Bellrock Street Car Park is in line for a revamp,
as are backcourts in Riddrie Knowes and outdoor spaces at Ardgay. New CCTV cameras are also planned for Sandyhills. In the SOUTH, backcourts at Kinnell Crescent
in Cardonald will benefit from resurfaced paths, new fencing and new turf, while new fencing will be installed in Dowancraig Road, Castlemilk, and shrubs there will be cleared away. Improvements will also be
carried out in Doonfoot Road and Lochlea Road in Auldhouse, including providing new
recycling facilities for residents. The committee also agreed to help
youngsters at Mosspark Primary School build a wildlife garden, including a fence to increase safety. Walls in the backcourts at Whithope Terrace in South Nitshill are to be upgraded and fences painted and paths resurfaced, while broken bin stores will be removed and back and front court areas improved in Devol Crescent, Brockburn Crescent and Brockburn Road in Pollok.

regeneration of the area, after 93 new homes for social rent were built on Riverford Road two years ago, and, last year, two tenement blocks in Shawbridge Street were fully refurbished as 40 mid-market rent flats. The latest new homes are due to be finished in early 2017.
Plans outlined for Ibrox area
GHA has outlined plans to build new homes in the Ibrox area. Plans have been lodged
for 152 new homes in Hinshelwood Drive – 116 for social rent and 36 for mid- market rent. Work is scheduled to start on site early next year, with the homes expected to be complete by early 2019.
