and gives people something to get up for. “We arrange barbecues for residents to help people mix, get older people to mix with younger people. “One of our tenants is a former chef at Gleneagles and he makes free soup every week.
“It makes for a healthier community, a community that works together and helps each other.” GHA Chair Gordon Sloan added: “The Sandyhills allotments are a great example of tenants working to bring people together and help improve their community.”
Kirkton to celebrate Glasgow 2014
A NEW community garden in Knightswood will become a focal point for the community - and help commemorate the Commonwealth Games. The garden, in Kirkton Avenue, will see new trees and shrubs planted and new benches installed. There will also be a resin footpath which looks like a running track and tulip bulbs planted in the design of the 2014 Commonwealth Games logo. Work on the project, which was funded with the help of GHA’s North West Area

Committee, has already started. Tenant John Scott-Colman, who
lives in the blocks, said: “I’m looking forward to people using the garden in the summer.” Pictured are John with tenant Robert Smith and GHA’s Cormac Quinn.
OLDER tenants in Milton came together to enjoy a slap-up lunch - and learn about services. They heard about the Handyperson service and met fuel advisors and welfare benefits advisors as well as the police and fire service, for on-the-spot advice and information. The annual Silver Deal event was held at The Arc in Ashgill Road last month.
