other times of the year. Spiced cocktails with ginger, hot buttered rum and warming mulled cider come into their own when the roaring fires are lit and the Christmas baubles are well and truly out!”

Throughout the four-day festival, visitors can sample and shop a range of fresh produce and handmade products from speciality cheeses, balsamic vinegars, oils and chutneys to gin-liqueur cake, Christmas puddings and bakery treats.

Joining the celebrity line-up on stage at London’s Eat and Drink Festival is TV and MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace, sharing his recipes for chestnut soup with bacon along with his Christmas-inspired bread ‘n’ butter pudding. Christmas lover Gregg says: “Love Christmas, bring it on! Roast potatoes, stuffing, quality gravy and of course, big thick sticky puddings! All of this, a couple of bottles of wine and your loved ones around you, what could be better!”

The foodie event comes to London Olympia between 22 and 26 November, with late night opening on the Thursday evening. Running alongside the Ideal Home Show at Christmas, the Eat and Drink Festival 2017 brings together artisan food producers, street food vendors and mixologists as well as highly- respected celebrity chefs to celebrate the best in Christmas fare ahead of the festive season.

Italian cook Gino D’Acampo will be taking to the Foodie Stage to share his tips on creating the perfect Italian Christmas. D’Acampo says “Christmas is a fantastic time of year, Brussels sprouts are one of my favourite vegetables. I can’t understand why people turn their noses up at them; there are lots of delicious ways to serve them other than boiling

“For me, cooking at Christmas is about providing the wow factor while keeping it simple,” says Gino D’Acampo. “I can’t wait to get on stage and have some real Gino-style fun. And this year I’m going to be doing something I’ve never done before at the show. As well as cooking up something delicious, I’m going to host my first live question and answer session with the audience. Ask me anything. You have been warned ...”

Talented baker Candice Brown demonstrates how to make Christmas sweet treats such as her passionfruit, pomegranate and pistachio roulade and pina colada macaroons. Other desserts come from larger-than-life cook Rosemary Shrager who shares her recipe for the perfect alternative Christmas pudding: an apricot and blue cheese tarte tatin. Katy Beskow reveals how to have a vegan Christmas with all the trimmings. The Fabulous Baker Brothers make the most of Christmas leftovers with their delicious Boxing Day pizza, while wine expert and author Olly Smith takes audiences through a cocktail cabinet of Christmas tipples.

When it comes to Christmas drinking, Olly says: “Christmas is a time to reach for those ingredients we tend to overlook at

As well as enjoying the Eat and Drink Festival, tickets also give access to the Ideal Home Show at Christmas, which returns to Olympia for its seventh consecutive year. Featuring eight dedicated sections across home and lifestyle including home improvements and outdoor living; style; Christmas decorations; a Christmas arcade with toys, games and books; kitchenware and the new-for-2017 Pet Pavilion, the two shows provide everything needed to create the ultimate Christmas.
