Paintcare California Celebrates Earth Day, Every Day Here Are Highlights Of Its Four-Plus Years In California

by Kim Beeler • kim@beelermarketing.com

Sonoma County, CA. ~ We all have some cans of leftover paint sitting around the house. Do you know what to do with them? PaintCare, a nonprofi t organization

established by

the paint industry, is making it more convenient to recycle paint throughout California. Since 2012, when the Paint-

Care program started its fi rst permanent

paint stewardship

program in California, it has become much easier to fi nd a place to recycle paint. Paint- Care now oversees 788 paint drop-off locations in Califor- nia, promotes using up leftover paint, and encourages people to buy the right amount of paint in the fi rst place to reduce the amount of leftover paint. As of today, 10 million gallons of paint have been collected and processed through the Califor- nia program and another 10

all brands of unwanted cans of house paint, stain and varnish, even if they were purchased be- fore the program started. Garrett ACE Hardware in

ous household waste (HHW) facilities in the state. There is no charge for drop-

ping off paint at a PaintCare location because the program is funded by a nominal fee on new paint. There are 19 Paint- Care locations in Sonoma County where anyone may take

Unforeseen Interruptions! From time to time mini fender benders and accidents occur when you least expect them. And they do happen. We are a positive solution to these annoying interruptions. We hope you don’t have to call us. But if you do... We’ll be ready!

Jamie Harrington said they are happy to offer customers a con- venient way to dispose of their old paints. It has two bins on site; one fi lls weekly. “Most customers are very excited to hear that their old paint can be recycled here and it’s conve- nient to drop off while running errands,”

Harrington noted.

“It’s a good way to get rid of that paint the previous home- owners left.” Peterson’s Paint & Deco- rating in Petaluma is another drop-off site in Sonoma Coun- ty, which entered the program in November 2013.

Owner Sean Lile said he likes the program because they’re giving people and businesses a better solution for paint re- cycling.

“It’s a fantastic pro-

gram,” Lile said. “People come in with other brands of paint and it doesn’t matter. We’re giving people options to clean out their garage without having to worry about what to do with their old paint sitting around.” To fi nd the PaintCare drop-

off locations and to learn more about the types of prod- ucts that are accepted, visit www.paintcare.org

“When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often fi nd that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”

Henri J.M. Nouwen
