A Cure for Your “Old Lady Hip” I
Several years later I still took that pact with ‘the old lady’
seriously by mostly complaining about it. And that is exactly what I was doing while visiting a friend of mine one day not so long ago. She brought out a salve and told me to try it. About 20 minutes went by after applying and it occurred to me that I wasn’t complaining.
“What is in it??!”, I asked.
Cannabis is the main ingredient along with other fabu- lous pain killing, healing herbs such as Holy Basil, Comfry, St. John’s Wort and Solomon’s Seal. As I see it, it was a moment of Grace. That moment when the universe breathes a little fresh air your way and relief, peace and love is all that is felt. Moments like those I enjoy reliving over and over again, and make efforts to extend into my every day rather than see them as a once in a lifetime one off. And that moment of grace for me, right then, is how I started my journey with Cannabis and what it can do for the clients that come to me in pain every day. As a massage therapist, I hear a lot about pain. As a person who has been living with a bum hip, I know a lot about pain. And now I have a massage oil on my shelf that I have made myself, and can attest wholeheartedly to its miraculous proper- ties that speaks to pain and helps it be less, at the very least. I’ve also learned that most of the things that Cannabis is cur- rently prescribed for are also conditions that massage therapy could be and are prescribed for, and that I help people with every day. You know, things like severe and persistent muscle spasms, and chronic intractable pain, AKA: The old lady hip.

Spring (and Hay) Fever! Essential Spotlight
n 2008 I had a perfect little angel born to me. The result to my life was immeasurable love and overwhelming ful-
fi llment, and the result to my right hip from that experience, was…not so much. “The Old lady hip” it was dubbed, gave me a range from a continual, constant, it-never-stops low grade pain, to shooting intense stabbing.
many allergy sufferers are already dreading the sleep- less nights they’re going to experience. Up to 50% of people say they suffer from allergies and their symptoms such as congestion, cough-
W
ing, wheezing, and itchy watery eyes keep them from getting a full night’s sleep. Allergy symptoms peak before dawn which means if you have allergies, your sleep is getting interrupted. Over time, continuous sleepless nights can make your symp- toms seem even worse. If you have allergies and are suffering from not having a good night’s sleep, something to consider is the type of pillow that you’re using – and not just for the obvi- ous reasons like you might be allergic to its contents! While allergies to feathers is familiar to many, you may also be al- lergic to the fi ber used in the threads of a pillowcase, as well as to the foam fi lling.
At L-oma Buckwheat Pillows, one of the reasons we
chose to use organic buckwheat hulls is the fact that no one has ever reported any allergies to them! For hundreds of years buckwheat hulls have been used as fi ll for pillows due to its health benefi ts and comfort. Today you can fi nd many different companies producing buckwheat pillows, but they are not all the same. As many allergy sufferers already know, reactions to non-organic materials such as dyes and chemicals are frequently found in some pillows and these can heighten symptoms, and in some cases even cause severe allergic reac- tions. L-oma uses hypo-allergenic cases for their pillows and the organic buckwheat hulls are non-fumigated and have no chemicals used in their processing, cleaning or drying.
Besides just helping allergy sufferers, another major ben-
efi t of buckwheat pillows is that it is completely moldable to the contours of your head, neck and shoulders, allowing them to be fully supported and aligning your body. This maximizes the opening of your airway and helps you to sleep more fully, even when you’re under the infl uence of the season. Buck- wheat pillows are not a complete antidote for allergies by any means, but we have found it certainly can help and encourage everyone to consider it in their fi ght against allergies.
Purchasing items from L-oma directly supports The Bridges Foundation, a non-profi t organization helping people with disabilities. For more information and to view other products available like Buckwheat Pillows, visit:
