recently heard two people talking about how much they loved their life and how grateful they were that everything seemed to be working out exactly as planned. I listened as they both discussed their struggles in the beginning to get their businesses off the ground and how it often felt like a leap of faith. What was clear to me in listening to them was that they never wavered in knowing that they were on the right path, even when it appeared like things weren’t taking off. I left that evening happy to hear

I

their stories, yet sad knowing that so many people either give up their dreams or have forgotten how to dream. I think it’s because we’ve lost our fl ow and without fl ow it’s near impossible to achieve your dreams.

What does getting in the fl ow mean? It means understanding coincidences and

synchronicities that happen to you and utilizing them to make your life easier and more joyful. Have you ever wondered why some people seem to have such an easy life and everything seems to go their way? It's not through luck or chance. Everyone has the abil- ity and power to live their life this way, it's just a matter of learning and applying the tools and techniques. Focus on the following and see what happens in your life.

1. Be Open: to new opportunities, new experiences, new friends. Remember that a gift may not always come in the package you expect. You may not think you have room in your life for a new friend or acquaintance, but he or she may be the person that leads you to the new career or relationship you're looking for.

2. Be Still: at least once a day if only for a few minutes. It is in this time that you may hear the answer to your question or fi nd the solution to your problem. This is diffi cult in our fast-paced world and fi nding time for yourself may seem selfi sh if you have a busy fam- ily, but if you don't take time to care for yourself how can you take care of others?

3. Be Passionate: about something in your life. So many people have lost their passion and trudge through life day after day. Find one thing you love to do each week and do it! Watch how the rest of your life and the lives around you improve when you are do- ing something you truly enjoy.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Essential Living Maine is focusing on all things relating to the women in our lives. Pictured above is me and my beautiful mom at the Madison Beach Hotel in CT last summer.

tive medicine beyond that was very limited until I became associated with Essential Living Maine magazine. Over the past year, I have had the great fortune of meeting many different practitioners who have taught me about the services they provide, one of them being Reiki.

I I have learned about chakras and energy work and quite honestly still don’t fully

understand how they work, but what I do know is that reiki worked for me! This winter I was involved in two snowmobile accidents due to my own inexperience. Thank good- ness, I wasn’t seriously injured, however both accidents did cause me to fall off my snow- mobile onto my right shoulder. The hospital said the collarbone acts as a shock absorber so instead of breaking my shoulder it caused a separation of the ligament.

Once the pain subsided to the point where I could allow someone to touch it, I went

to my chiropractor for an adjustment and then for a couple of deep tissue massages. After a month, it was better, but I was still experiencing pain. I had scheduled a reiki session prior to my second accident and when I went for my treatment I mentioned what had happened. During the session, the reiki practitioner placed her hands above my body and even though my eyes were closed I could tell when she was at my right shoulder, because I suddenly felt heat radiating into that area. At the end of the session, I sat up and realized the pain in my shoulder was gone!

It has been a few months since that session and I can honestly say I have not had pain in that shoulder since. Again, I don’t know how it works, but if you are suffering from pain or some type of ailment, I would encourage you to seek out some alterna- tive therapies like the ones featured in this issue (reiki, acupuncture, EFT, etc.) instead of continuing to suffer.
