INDEPENDENT PRESCRIBER OF THE YEAR

Alasdair Shearer, Davidson’s Chemist and Ryan Anderson, Napp Pharmaceuticals

ALASDAIR SHEARER, DAVIDSONS CHEMIST, PERTH & KINROSS

Alasdair works very much in collaboration with local practice pharmacists, GP practices and community nurses, particularly in managing patients with complex health issues. This collaborative work was highlighted by the judges, who said that he delivered a fantastic model for supporting patients and improving their lives through effective pain management.

‘Alasdair,’ the judges said, ‘exemplifies collaborative working by working with a wide range of healthcare professionals. Not only that, but he also takes the lead in supporting other pharmacists to engage in this model and help with their patients. He has also successfully gained an excellent rating through the GPhC inspection process of his pharmacy; a rating given to very few.’

‘I was actually very apprehensive coming in tonight,’ Alasdair told SP, ‘particularly when I saw the calibre of the other nominees. I know all of them and the work that they’re doing, so to have come out with the award against all of them is amazing!’

‘I think these awards are really important,’ said Ryan Anderson from Napp Pharmaceuticals, ‘because

it’s vital to recognise the vital role that pharmacists – and particularly independent prescribers - play in the delivery of our medicines and also the impact that our medicines have.’
