EXCELLENT WORKING PRACTICE TAKES CENTRE STAGE!

THE EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE WAS CERTAINLY BUZZING WITH EXCITEMENT ON SATURDAY 11 MARCH AS THE CREAM OF SCOTLAND’S PHARMACY SECTOR GATHERED TO CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THEIR COMMUNITY AND HOSPITAL COLLEAGUES.

Each year, the Scottish Pharmacist Awards provide an opportunity for the pharmacy profession in Scotland to highlight the work that’s being done on a daily basis by pharmacists both in hospital and the community and, each year, the standard of the entries continues to rise.

This year’s awards – the eighth annual event – once again attracted the good and the great of Scottish Pharmacy. In addition to the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Professor Rose Marie Parr, the awards were also attended by Alex MacKinnon, interim Chief Executive Officer

at Royal Pharmaceutical Society Scotland and Professor Harry McQuillan, Chief Executive Officer, Community Pharmacy Scotland, as well as a large number of industry representatives, and community and hospital pharmacy teams.

The evening kicked off with a very entertaining introduction by the award compère, Hardeep Singh Kohli, who thanked all of those concerned in supporting the awards: not only event partner,

AAH Pharmaceuticals, but also the many organisations, who had provided their backing and support: EMIS Health, Teva UK, Actavis UK, Wockhardt UK, Positive Solutions, Willach UK, Numark, Daiichi Sanyko, Napp Pharmaceuticals, Alliance Healthcare, Robert Gordon University and University of Strathclyde. Hardeep also thanked National Pharmacy Association, Cegedim RX, Eclipse Generics, IDIS and Lexon UK for their associate support.

Once the acknowledgements were complete, Hardeep welcomed Rupert Newman, UK Sales Director at Celesio to the stage on behalf of event partner, AAH Pharmaceuticals. Rupert told the audience that the company was proud to support both Scottish pharmacy and the communities that it serves.

‘With daily deliveries to every dispensing point across the UK,’ Rupert told the attendees, ‘we believe that, together, we can build a powerful partnership bringing our

expertise and reach to support the incredible and vital role pharmacies play within their local communities.

‘AAH takes great pleasure in our continued involvement, acknowledging and sharing the success stories and initiatives pharmacy teams have delivered in the past year. The efforts of the nominees shortlisted this evening demonstrate the pivotal role pharmacy teams are playing in delivering primary care for their patients and communities.

‘We look forward to celebrating with the pharmacy teams who truly deserve recognition for the hard work and commitment they demonstrate every day.’

This year’s awards covered every aspect of the work that’s prevalent in Scottish pharmacy today. As always, a huge number of entries were received from every Health Board in Scotland across all nine categories: Pharmacist of the Future; eHealth & Innovation in Pharmacy Practice; Pharmacy Team Member of the Year;
