CABLE INSTALLATION

INDUSTRY DEMAND

With the upsurge of activity around the UK and Europe, Albion Manufacturing continue to see a high demand for their hand made cable socks and Chinese fingers (Albi-Grips)

Recent, and current, projects to require Albion’s bespoke cable pulling products on include Dudgeon, Burbo Bank, Rampion, Race Bank, Galloper, Walney, Sandbank, Veja Mate, Wikinger as well as other cable link projects underway in European waters.

PROJECT ESSENTIAL

Chinese fingers are an integral part of array, export and turbine hang off cable installations and the designs and specifications of these specialist items often vary from project to project. Albion’s highly experienced design team

often work with the cable manufacturers and installers from early in the cable design and planning stage, however, project specifications can often change at short notice shortly before the on-site works commence leaving the manufacturer with a short window for the manufacture process.

REPUTATION

Such is Albion’s reputation that they have been approached by one of the world’s largest cable manufacturers for the supply, under a long-term agreement, of Chinese fingers and other associated

POST INCIDENT CABLE INVESTIGATIONS

A successful ‘Lessons Learned Process’ will cross functional boundaries and allow an organisation to learn from both its mistakes and its successes

To be effective it should prevent repetitive mistakes and enhance project successes. It should be a fundamental part of any ‘continuous improvement’ process. Unfortunately, it is difficult to benefit from lessons learnt due to project constraints, movement of personnel or future opportunities.

PROJECT SUPPORT

BPP-TECH and BPP-Cables have significant experience in supporting projects within the Oil, Gas and Renewable sectors. A key benefit for these clients comes from the lessons learnt from historical project events.

Working as an integral member within the project teams on the engineering design, manufacturing, testing, packaging, installation and commissioning draws on our work with the insurance and risk adversity markets.

The knowledge collated from project inspections, audits and forensic investigations allows operators, installers and OEM’s to benefit from this experience.

POST PROJECT

Frequently BPP are requested to support projects post incident. This is a lesson in itself: early engagement with an experienced engineering resource would allow the knowledge of past incidents to be introduced at an early stage in the project. When this doesn’t happen and there is late intervention it usually results in the installer/clients project

FEATURE SPONSOR

lifting equipment to projects, vessels and associated locations worldwide. Director Tom Nix commented: “As the manufacturer we are fully in control of the production process which allows us to quickly adapt to our client’s requirements. This, along with our design knowledge, experience, UKAS certified quality control systems and continued supply of quality goods has put us in the positon where major players are happy to offer agreements for long term supply or actively name us as their preferred supplier. On top of this we still continue to attract new clients either by reputation or referral.”

POSITIVE PROACTIVE APPROACH

Adopting of a positive proactive approach a knowledgeable engineering company can add value to the project and support the clients by reviewing the designs, procedures, risk assessments and other documentation associated with installation campaigns. Involvement in the process from an early stage, allows a holistic consideration of the process route from specification, technical evaluation right through to the stages of goods receipt at site, installation and commissioning. Experience has shown there are many

areas which will impact the project’s success with the methodical approach undertaken from the inspection, readily feeding back in to future projects.

ONE-STOP-SHOP

Familiarity and experience of using methodologies adopted from other industries, combined with an able analytical team performing engineering analysis means the client can take advantage of a comprehensive ‘one-stop- shop for project support.
