North Sea is necessary for offshore wind to be a success. The first three offshore wind farms in the Netherlands were installed from IJmuiden. The latest project was the assembly of wind turbines in Amsterdam for the nearshore development Westermeerwind. A cable hub resides just behind the lock system for controlled circumstances for cable transhipment (ship to shore and ship to ship), handling and storage. In the past few years an O&M hub has emerged for larger
projects including day to day maintenance. Comprehensive facilities have attracted companies including Eneco, MHI Vestas, Windcat Workboats, C-Ventus and Oceanteam who have the experience and attitude to work with partners for a successful delivery of services.
SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY – NUDGING INNOVATION & EDUCATION
Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports hosts two innovation round tables on the subject of Inbound Logistics and O&M. The objective of these interest groups is to optimise solutions for cost reductions distinctly focusing on working in a collective way to make sure innovative solutions fit into the supply chain. With this development new jobs have emerged. A combination of the educational institute Nova College and partners Falck Nutec, Querces and Techport have set up a vocational education for Wind Technician, a specialisation on a vocational level for on and offshore, including all necessary national, European and international certification.
HIGH LEVEL OF INVESTMENTS FOR OFFSHORE
Recently a number of state-of-the-art-quays and boat landings for O&M have been extended. A second (large) lock system is being built, the biggest in the world and when open will provide unlimited entrance to tide-free and well-equipped paved quays. An extension of terminal space outside the locks is under construction, creating additional space for unlimited growth for offshore wind.
CONNECTING EAST OF ENGLAND ENERGY GROUP (EEEGR) & AMSTERDAM IJMUIDEN OFFSHORE PORTS (AYOP)
Synergy is the key word in cooperation. Important topics for both regions are developments in the North Sea, specifically in offshore wind, decommissioning and developments in oil & gas. Costs are equally important in all sectors and the collaboration between AYOP and EEEGR know that it pays to work together. The two organisations are following historical ties and links which have been present for many years. They are also setting up mutual memberships. By exchanging knowledge, sharing insight and sharing the networks members will benefit by connecting with relevant companies in each area of business.
