BEST PRACTICE IN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

Bosch Rexroth have launched two major white papers highlighting the importance of best practice in two key areas of the management of hydraulic systems

PAPER ONE

The first white paper ‘New filter materials for hydraulic systems: Longer service life and reduced operating costs’, details the vital role of filtration in optimising hydraulic systems performance and longevity. In particular, it discusses the development of fifth-generation technology filter materials which now offer breakthroughs in filtration performance, helping to minimise contamination levels and so reducing operating costs and increasing the life cycle of hydraulic systems. The report also discusses the impact of contamination which can lead to physical damage to system components with the potential for serious system malfunction.

It then gives guidance on technical criteria for filter selection. Chris Gray, Filtration Product Manager at Bosch Rexroth commented: “No other industrial and manufacturing drive technology provides the power density, life cycle performance and resistance to adverse environmental conditions offered by hydraulics. However, this only applies as long as the correct fluid is selected and that fluid is kept free of contaminants.”

PAPER TWO

The second whitepaper, entitled ‘Keeping things fluid — a guide to best practice in hydraulic fluid selection and management’, discusses the numerous vital roles played by hydraulic fluid in applications where ever greater demands are placed on hydraulic systems. As well as transmitting power, the chosen hydraulic fluid is integral to heat transfer, the removal of contamination, sealing and lubrication. “Between them,” continues Chris Gray “our two white papers provide all of the guidance needed to help specifiers choose the best fluid and then extract maximum value from it.”

OILS & LUBRICATION

The second white paper goes on to discuss the importance of the fluid selection process, before giving readers common sense advice on applying the correct criteria in order to specify the most appropriate hydraulic fluid for their application. “By selecting the right fluid and with the help of advanced filter media, manufacturers can reduce operating costs, while keeping the same operating conditions, and ultimately protect hydraulic systems to maximise service life,” concluded Chris.
