CHING MING FESTIVAL Greenwood Memorial Park hosts its first Ching Ming festival, starting with a performance by Chinese lion dancers to scare away bad spirits. The ancient Chinese grave-sweeping ritual is conduct- ed each spring to honor the mem- ory of deceased loved ones. For the event,
Greenwood is providing refreshments, tomb-sweeping supplies, and fire rooster pendants to the first 100 attendees. The observance of Ching Ming dates back more than 2500 years and is linked to the Chinese culture of ancestor worship. Each year celebrants visit ancestral graves where they conduct ceremonial rites and make offer- ings. The traditions remain a sig- nificant part of cultural life in modern Chinese communities.
