Swing into summer with`Jazz on the Lawn’

Imagine listening to live jazz on a summer’s day in beautiful Kent countryside while savouring a five-star Afternoon Tea. Tudor Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club, in Bearsted, will turn that image into reality on Sunday, July 9, when it holds is first `Jazz on the Lawn’ event. Popular Kent band, 5 In The Bar, will be

playing a vibrant mix of swing hits, from Frank Sinatra to Michael Buble. With a huge repertoire that includes the most influential American popular songs and jazz from the 1930s through to modern day, the band will have something for everyone. Enjoy the afternoon of easy listening while sitting in the hotel gardens overlooking a fairy tale gazebo and nature reserve. Take in the view across the 18-hole championship golf course and the carefully-tended grounds which

were once a medieval deer park. On the menu, will be Tudor Park’s

acclaimed Afternoon Tea — a three- tiered feast of delicate sandwiches, cakes, sweet treats, and scones that defy gravity. And, of course, lashings of cream and replenished pots of tea. “It is the first time we have held jazz on the lawn and we are very excited about the prospect — it’s what English summers should be about,” says Tudor Park’s hotel manager Nick Hawkes. The event will bring back memories for the musicians of 5 In The Bar too as they first played on the site before the Tudor Park hotel was built 29 years ago. “This hotel holds very special memories for us and although we have played at functions here, this will be our first jazz performance outside,” says band member, Tony Ellingham. “Listening to live jazz outdoors in the

summer is always magical and there is sure to be a great atmosphere. Dancing and singing will definitely be encouraged.” While good food and music is

guaranteed, the only thing that can’t be predicted is the weather. If it rains, the jazz afternoon will take place from the hotel’s Bearsted Room and marquee.
