The Arts Wing

The creative and performing arts are equally essential for fostering imagination and problem solving, and the Arts Wing will nurture creative growth and build confidence, trust and freedom of expression in our students.

The Innovation and Creation Space (sometimes called a Maker Space) will house age-appropriate tools and equipment for robotics, engineering and digital fabrication, including a 3D printer

. Students can tinker, build,

and explore, inspiring creativity and instilling confidence as they undertake projects which integrate all the components of STEAM. Real-world problem-solving skills are developed as students apply the design thinking methodology to explore concepts and generate solutions. This dedicated space will allow BHS to expand its innovative curriculum and activities such as the Robotics Club and technology courses, allowing students to take the steps necessary to move from ideation to engineering to product creation.

Once the Innovation Centre is completed, space in the Butterfield building that currently houses the science and computer labs, as well as the library, will be renovated to centralise the visual and performing arts.

The redesigned Arts Wing will include: • two new art studios • a ceramic/sculpture studio with a kiln • a new drama studio and a Blackbox Theatre • 6–8 individual soundproofed music practice rooms
